Razz GFX Card or a new Motherboard/Processor

New to the forum so forgive me if i leave anything out.
Iv had my comp for about 4/5 years and its time to update

Update as in the on-line MMORPG i play don't look as good as MapleStory does on the lowest setting

I just want some advice on what i should be changing (the whole thing or just the GFX Card) or even both, seeing as i have a integrated card which is crap now

Iv not done alot of research on Cards and last time i looked in the case was to insert another 256RAM, so i cant tell you what slots i have. (till this saturday, ill take a few pics and upload if needed)

I saw somewhere that Everest gives a good summery so ill attach a file showing it..

Re: GFX Card or a new Motherboard/Processor

Just to inform everyone you have a

emachines pc
socket 478 with a celeron 1.8ghz
512mb of ddr ram / 2x 256mb
integrated video
And 3 regular pci slots / 1 occupied

You can upgrade the pc but not by much. The maximum memory you could have is probly 768mb to 1 gb. You dont have a agp or pci-e slot so you video card options are pretty limited. Also the cpu should also be upgraded but I'm not sure it would go much faster anyway. I would say if you can afford it you should get a all new pc. We can help you pick one out based on your budget. But if you don't want to get a new pc and just want to max this out we can also help. Please let us know your buget range and we'll see what we can do.

Re: GFX Card or a new Motherboard/Processor

Id like to get a new PC or modify my current one but i dont know if my budget will stretch

Im willing to spend £150-200 on modifying it

What would this pc run like if it was maxed to the limit?

Re: GFX Card or a new Motherboard/Processor

I would imagine the limit of the pc would be like a 2.6ghz p4 with maybe a gig of ram and with the best pci videocard, it wouldn't run to much different then it does now.

I checked and 200 euro's is about 291 dollors so I think what we can do is upgrade all the barebone parts on it, meaning new motherboard, cpu, ram, that sort of thing. Your current mobo setup I imagine wouldn't be very fast even if we maxed it out so simply upgrading all the main guts would be better. You would keep the same case with the same hdd and cd drive and maybe the same psu.

What I would like to know is if the case has a removable i/o sheild on the back, if it doesn't you probly couldn't use the case either.

Re: GFX Card or a new Motherboard/Processor

this is what an i/o sheild is

http://www.intel.com/support/motherb...g/ioshield.gif

its the peice of metal that goes arround the ports to make the case more air tight. need to know if yours is removeable like in the pic or just solid and built into the case.

Re: GFX Card or a new Motherboard/Processor

You seem to have taken a picture of your power supply. This is an i/o shield

http://estore.asus.com/images/13-020010430.jpg

See where it goes on your case?

http://www.mysuperpc.com/build/epox_..._installed.jpg

We need to know if yours is removable or if its a solid part of the case. Btw if this sounds to complicated to change the whole board out and all we could just add some more ram and a maybe a faster cpu.

Re: GFX Card or a new Motherboard/Processor

Yup it is remove able which means you can keep the case. I'm guessing if it has 3 pci slots its a mini or micro atx form factor, meaning just a really short case. So for about 200 eruo's (about 300$) we should be able to find a motherboard, cpu, ram, and psu. The things that will stay in the case will be the hdd and cd drive. note that your copy of windows might not work on the aftermarket motherbord which means you would reinstall windows just using a regular xp cd.

Probly a core two duo or pentium d . Board that supports at least 4 gigs of ram . Not sure if you want to try to get a video card in there too. And something like a antec psu.

motherboard

cpu pentium d 2.2ghz
http://www.europc.co.uk/pages/Produc...spx?PID=103044

ram ddr2 667mhz 2gb
http://www.europc.co.uk/pages/Produc...aspx?PID=17130

psu antec trio 430w

video card radeon 2600xt
http://www.europc.co.uk/pages/Produc...aspx?PID=90348

Its all comes out to about 207. But I could not find a heatsink on that website (its the only website i could find in the uk) so you might have to shop around ebay or somewhere for a socket 775 heatsink. I made sure the motherboard supported 4 gb of ram and its also supports faster processors. I assumed your budget was 200 so I tried to find the best I could of everthing for close to that.

The converter I used must be out of date. Well I still picked parts that equaled 200. As for you link gamer , they dont provide the name of the motherboard so i wouldnt really trust it.
