Perplexed by a recent issue. Came into office one day and my flat screen no longer had the screen saver on but a black blank screen, power button no longer blue but yellow,(meaning standby). Thought perhaps my e-GeForce 5200 video card went out so baught a Diamond Stealth Radeon 9550. GeForce was plugged into a PCI slot, now new Diamond plugged into AGP slot. Problem is, turn on PC and can hear it booting up but nothing visual. black screen. Turn PC on/off a few times and it comes on BIOS screen run through and start up. Wierd
, ? Once it is running no problem, monitor is working fine. What could cause it to not start the monitor on boot up? Thought perhaps motherboard is older model and does not support newer AGP video card. Plus during boot up the screen will show boot up sequence with devises and all the nessesary HD info, then just before going to XP loading page, the montior goes dark, shows the "no signal" prompt and then goes back to the sign on page. Do not know if this is making any sense but feel it is a config problem, old motherboard problem, or a end -user problem and not a monitor (brand new btw) problem. Any advise? Thanks for reading Marcus53

Re: AGP vs. flat screen monitor
Welcome to tsf. I would try reseting the cmos first, just remove the clock battery on the motherboard for 5 minutes then put in back in. Its should reset your bios so the computer will use the agp as a default.

No, now my PC will not even turn on, might be the switch. But to answer your latest question, no there wasn't even a post white screen set up. But I cannot be so sure of that because I cannot get the monitor to start up.
I have a second ATX housing. Perhaps I should start from scratch, mount the motherboard in the new box, or I could just swap out switches and see if that is the current problem. Isn't it odd when something goes wrong, there are coincidental issues that arrise. First it was getting the monitor to boot up with bios, took out the battery like suggested, 5 minutes, then reinserted. First thing that was apparent it didn't show on screen, dismanteled all cables and plugged into roommates monitor. Same thing was happening, so ruled out montitor problem. now it doesn't power up period. I know it isn't bad power supply. The motherboard I have is a elitegroup K7VMA. Am at a stand still right now, but determined to perservere.Any suggestions? Marcus |

Re: AGP vs. flat screen monitor
bypass any power surge strips that might be in line.
unplug the machine again remove the side , but de-static yourself by touching unpainted metal on the case remove the agp card remove the cmos battery for 15 plus minutes this time. make sure you didnt dis-lodge any power leeds to the main board try it with the original video card, and try a different monitor in case the supply went bad- http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec....iteria=BA23050

thanks for all the help, the last post that was given did the job.
What I ended up doing was totally dismantled the whole PC and changed out cases. Put new power supply in, added a interior fan, and step by step plugged in all the devices. Booted right back up and BIOS recognized new Diamond video card. Learned something new, unplugging battery did the trick. See you all next issue. Marcus53
