Ati X1650 causing trouble
Hi All,
Time to put your clever hats on.... I recently upgraded my video card from a Ati radeon 9600 powercolor to a Ati radeon X1650 and now everytime I run a game either the game crashes and I get an error report stating the game .exe has had to close etc, or I get the blue screen of death (because I purposely disabled the "automatically restart" check box to posibilly gather info.) A few different BSOD errors for anyone who understands this stuff: (I put quotes round them to represent different error messages) "Aticqag.dll (0xc0000005, 0xbf068a78, 0xa7efe828, 0x00000000)" "Ati3duag.dll" "An attempt was made to write to read-only memory ***Stop 0x000000be (0xe3345434, 0x39a71128, 0xa7ad481c, 0x0000000f)" I mainly use Oblivion to test the gfx card but its also crashed out on Entropia Universe, Eve online and Hitman contracts. My pc spec: Athlon 64bit 3200+ 2.20 ghz 1 GB of RAM Asus K8VSE Deluxe Mother board Ati radeon X1650 PRO AGP 512MB 450 Watt ATX psu I did try putting my old gfx card back in but that crashed me out of Oblivion as well, so kinda thinking its the motherboard crapping out but i'm still hoping it's not that. Ok stuff I have tried: Reseating the card and reinstalling drivers changing the agp to 4x in bios changing the agp to 0x ( using the CCC ) Installing the latest drivers Installing old drivers Installing just the display driver ( No CCC etc.. ) Installing Omega drivers changing the graphics aperture size from 64mb to 256mb in bios (and back again) Running dxdiag running DrWatson changing the hardware acceleration slider bar in the troubleshoot section of graphics properties I'm sure i've missed a few things as i've been messing about with my pc for 2 days or so now and i've got nothing left. ![]() Something I have noticed is the clock speeds, I need someone who is a certifiable genius to check this out so I can know for sure... This is the link for the specs of the X1650: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-X165PA Now the specs state the core clock speed is 450mhz and the memory clock speed is 650mhz. I've ran ATITool and that states the default core clock speed is 594.00mhz and the default memory clock speed is 796.50mhz. ![]() I don't know a great deal about overclocking but i'm guessing these numbers are suposed to match up, i have tried changing the clock speeds, I can set the core clock to 450mhz but the memory clock does'nt like being touched. If I do anything other than changing the core clock I get a black screen, the monitor is still on and the pc fans are running I just can't see anything. Any help is appreciated, if your quick I might have some hair left! ![]() Thanks |

Re: Ati X1650 causing trouble
this was posted a long time ago but i googled this problem and found this post.
i'm having the exactly same problem when i play certain games i get a crash and a blue screen saying i got an error with aticqag.dll one note however, is that for some reason, i can play these games windowed if i play swbf2 fullscreen i get a crash, but if i play it in windowed mode, i can play just fine without problems i don't know much about how this works but i'm guessing if its windowed the graphics card can reference the area outside the game and doesn't get stuck in an infinite loop or something like that edit: i also tried playing morrowind and it works just fine fullscreen. perhaps this is some sort of function in newer games like 3d graphics or something that is messing up the card anyway it works with morrowind, an old game, and works with swbf2 and mass effect windowed if that will help you Last edited by Lemonio; 09-21-2008 at 08:18 PM. |

Try reinstalling your driver, run Driver Cleaner: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 after you uninstall your existing one, reboot and install new one.

Dig around in the BIOS, it should be on the "Advanced" page. |

Re: Ati X1650 causing trouble
nonono
that's HIS specs i have same problem but compleltely different computer i have a pentium 4 processor 1.5 GB ram ati radeon HD3850 430 watt antec true power trio power supply yes i am PCI-E i have begun to suspect that the crashes are related to overheating, however in some games i get an instantaneous crash, and i can play graphics intensive games windowed so that doesn't make a lot of sense |

I apologise. Since you're in this thread I thought you were the OP. Please make a new thread every time and link to other threads that may be relevant.
Your system is very much underpowered with a 430W Antec; that's not even enough for mine. Try a more powerful unit, I would recommend at least 600W with 26A on the +12V rail. Take a look here: Power Supply Information and Selection You fall under the power desktop class. |

Re: Ati X1650 causing trouble
Hello,
Eventually I did find out what was wrong and yes it was the motherboard, it was just old the agp port was knackered meaning changing the agp speed in bios was making it last a bit longer between every BSOD. After messing around with it for a while the HDD went pop and the processor melted down, Infact the only thing that did suvive was the RAM. doh! |
