blank screen after system crash (brand new parts)
i decided to upgrade my computer and all was going well all components and windows installed fine and it worked fine for about 14 hours then while i was updating wow (world of warcraft) then about 88% in the comp froze (not 100% sure when it froze as i left it to update while i did something productive like watch telly) as a last resort i had to do a hard restart, basikly just turning off the computer and back on again skipping the propper shutdown rutine. as it restarted my monitor was black and the power light was flashing as it does when it is left on without the computer being on.
the monitor is a samsung synk master 913n and the graphics card is a club 3d nvidia 7850gt. i thought it may be the monitor so i took it to a friends and hocked it up to there rig and it worked fine, i then thought it may be the vga to dvi adaptor so i tryed a new one but to no avail. so my mind then turned to the graphics card i had my old his ati x850 xt PE around so i popped that in and hocked up the monitor and still noting. as far as i can make out the computer is POST'ing and booting into windows (vista 32 bit home premium) but i cant tell as i cant see but im not getting any POST errors. if anyone has any ideas on what it could be i would love to hear it cause im all out of ideas :(:( .............................................................................................. PC spec MoBo= gigabyte P31-DS3L Ram = Corsair twinx xms2 6400 2GB CPU = Intel Core 2 quad 6600 GPU = club 3d nvidia 7950gt DVD = Pioneer 212dbk sata SyS = Win vista 32bit home premium I think that is all the info i can give but if you need anything else please ask as i would love to sort this prob out as it is driving me mad. thanks in advance Paul A.K.A. Re: blank screen after system crash (brand new parts)
that PSU is a new one i thought there might not be enough power comming from my old PSU to power it and thats why as it got put under a bit more load it crashed so i got a new psu and that still did not work.
also i just went to get a new graphics card to see if it was that and with a brand new graphics card in the system it still did not work so i think that narrows it down to being a MoBo problem i think, maybe a dodgy interface on my new motherboard, i cant see it being the CPU but i really am stumped now. hope you have some more ideas cause now my well of thought has run dry :(:( |

Re: blank screen after system crash (brand new parts)
dai
i cant see the line voltages as given in the bios because i have no display unless there is some other way i can see them? Emosun on closer inspection there is no happy beep (the internal speaker is set up right) but there is also no destress beeps so im just guessing really that it is loading into windows from the noises it makes. a bit geeky i know but you can tell by when and how long the HDD spins if it is atleast trying to boot windows. also the only spare graphics card's i have are another pci-e card and an old agp card and i think my even older comps were onboard video but i will try and find one but i have to work now so any other guesses while im at work would be apriciated, also all the help so far is apriciated thanks people. |

Re: blank screen after system crash (brand new parts)
Teh,
Did you ever manage to resolve this issue? Was it the MoBo in the end or something else? I only ask because I have just had an almost identical problem with a newly built graphic workstation. The only real difference is that prior to this problem (as in 24hrs prior!) the computer would boot ok but show nothing but the black screen until the Windows logon screen appeared. I would be very interested in any outcome you had with this problem. If it remains unresolved, I would be happy to share any of my own further findings with you. |
