This is a video card prob, right?...

My Video Card:

Saphire X1950 Pro

My Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA-965P-S3

Well, the other night I was playing Secondlife... When all of a sudden BAM, my computer froze. Right when I was about to type something to a friend of mine.

Ouchies.

So I was like "Oh boy, and here I thought I wouldn't have to deal with this for a long while with this new computer... *cries* (not really crying tho)"

So I was like "Meh, restart!" And hit the restart button on the front of the case.

Ouchies again.

Nothing showed up on the screen. At all.

Here are the several things I've tried:

Restarting my computer, again. (I hate to have to turn off my computer from the power button T.T... I hope that won't screw it up =\)

Taking out the video card, dusting it off with that special computer hardware friendly duster :P Then putting it back in...

I've looked all over the place for another PCI-E video card, but... Everyone I know has an AGP...

So I called up my dad, asked him to look around his work (JPL) and even *they* didn't have anything..

So I'm going to have to get a bit more "technical" here.

I was thinking of buying or looking for a really cheap PCI video card just to test out what might be going down with my computer.

The only problem is, if I get one, and it works with the PCI video card... It would turn out that my Video Card or my mobo is bad... Just like before...
So, if it works with the PCI, I'd assume that I need to buy a new video card... So if I buy a new video card... I'm worried that it'll actually be the slot that I put the PCI-E card into... Not just the card itself.. I don't want to have to spend too much money to figure out what's up, and then find out that there's no reason to spend money on a new video card at all...

Grr, sorry if I'm not making sense right now, I got absolutely no sleep last night for various reasons. (nothing bad ;P)

Thanks for any help :)

Hmmm...

I'd go with buying a super-cheap PCI card. I'd send ya mine but it's the only one I have! Drop one in and see what you get.

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

Well, what about the issue about if I get a pci, and it works... But then I'm like "alright, I'll get a new pci-e!" and then it doesn't work cause it's actualy the motherboards PCI-E slot? >>

Think they'd let me return the video card I just bought if it's actually the mobo that's the problem?

Do you think it's most likely the PCI-E card though? =\

If it is the PCI-E card... Do you recommend I just get the same video card?

Sapphire x1950 Pro

Or something else?

If you recommend something else... What do you think I should get? (Preferably something better for around the same price... I see a few diff things, but I don't know which one I'd pick >>)

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

I would send you my pci card if you wanted but dont wanna pay to ship it, its not worth it lol. I would buy a new vc and try that, then if it works you can take it back and say your pc had agp. I did that once on accident, bought a pci-e and my pc had agp, lol.

Have you tried another power supply? What PSU do you have now?

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

Eneles, everything powers up fine... The lights, the fans, the cd-drive opens and closes, etc. =\

You sure it could be a power supply issue? >>

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

It's a possibility.
Try another PSU.
What PSU do you have now?
The other system specs?

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

when everything power up with no bios error beeps it is usually insufficient power on the 12v+ line
if it was the card you would expect to receive a bios beep code or a bsod
pcie min amps on the 12v+ line[s]=26amps

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

I tried unplugging the big cable that goes to the mobo, and plugging that back in... And bam... It works. I'm just worried about for how long, and all that stuff >>

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

Do you think it'll happen often now that it's happened once? Or do you think it was just a lil thing that happened cause of temp changes and all that technical stuff?

Should I worry? >>

Re: This is a video card prob, right?...

Probably just a loose contact.

But - you should worry if you have a poor quality PSU.
