[SOLVED] Gaming issues

Hi Everyone

happy new year!

Got COD4 for Xmas but I'm having a few lagging issues. I would like to play at res 1024 by 768 but it seems not very smooth. So to play at full speed I have to resort to 800 by 600 which effects the clarity of the graphics. Can someone take a look at my specs and see what needs to be changed/updated or could be the cause of my frustrations.

P.S. I have updated all the drivers

Many thanks

Toby

Re: Gaming issues

The 7200 is dismal for for gaming mate. What motherboard do you have, and do you have a budget for an upgrade. Also, what make is that PSU>?

Re: Gaming issues

Hi Bigfella

I had a feeling someone was going to say that. Not sure on the make of the PSU, I'll look tonight when I get home.

This is my motherboard

My budget is prob around 50 quid, can I get a good card for that amount?

Many thanks for your help - Toby

Re: Gaming issues

Ok fortunately you have a PCIe x 16 slot which means that many more options are available to you.

We need to know what PSU you have, but based on the fact that you don't have a lot to spend and you are using XP (for now making Direct X 10 cards pointless), I would go for something like a 7900GS (nVidia). Have never used Ati and I am an nVidia guy, so check out the graphics cards section http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...-card-support/

and then check out what Ati offer in the £50 mark on eBay.

Do the same for the 7900GS. I sold mine about 4 days agon on eBay for £35. Thats good value for a card that plays Crysis on medium and can be overclocked like all hell (if you're interested). However for slightly more cash, then Ati is quicker.

If you have even more cash, then the 8800GTS or GT, is still IMHO the best performance/£ section, oh and maybe Ati's 3870 series, not too bad.

So look here:

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/sear...atitle=7900+GS

http://search-desc.ebay.com/ATI-Rade...BQ29QQsbrbinZt

(sorry about the US link, none of these cards on eBay in UK, when i looked).

Anyway good luck, oh, also check out the VGA 2007 Charts in my sig, and while you're there also read the one about Power Supply choice.

Good luck

Re: Gaming issues

Hi Bigfella

Thanks for the info! I've managed to get a 7600 GT for 20 pounds so I thought I'll give that a go. If not, then I'll look into the other cards you have mentioned.

Thanks again for your help mate, very much appreciated!
