How to fit high resolution on small monitor

I have an LG520Si CRT 15" monitor & ATI Radeon 7200 video card fitted for my kids PC running on a screen resolution 800*600 32 bit color with no problems.
Long ago when used Win 98 I used to choose 1024*768 to view games large screen that are not customizable for less resolution, the view was a bit interlacing but whole is fitting in the screen.
Few days ago I had to do the same with Win XP, but instead of fitting, only part of the screen shows up & scrolls sideways, up & down when the pointer reaches the screen limits...
Is there a way to fit the whole 1024*768 screen in the same area of 800*600 as a whole without scrolling ??(interlacing is no problem with me).
Thanks.
