"new" Graphics card, Monitor no signal

Recently a friend of mine got a brand new pc and said I could have his old graphics card. My current card is a fx 5600 and his old card is a 6800 (gt I think) both cards are AGP so I was hoping that with this minor update I could play some of the great games previously denied to me.
The problem is when I installed the card, my monitor will not read it, the fan on the card moves but the monitor just says. "no signal". The monitor is a 17" plug and play CRT monitor, which is about a year and a half old and works fine with the old 5600. The card worked on his old computer, but it could be something that happened to the card in in transit but I have absolutely no idea.
Thanks a lot for the help, it's extremely appreciated.

Theres a extra power lead, or two with that card, make sure its
plugged in. That card has more of a power draw as well, you might
not have enough power.

Where would the other lead be plugged in? and if I didn't have enough power how could I fix this?
Thanks for the help, but you're going to have to hold my hand I'm a tad useless. :D

IF power is connected properly. First things first, try re-seating the card.
