Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
I'm not sure if I should post this in the video card section or Vista section so I'm posting in both...
On 12/14/07 I bought a HP - Pavilion Elite Q6600 from Best Buy without a monitor. When I brought it home I plugged it into my Westinghouse 32" HDTV through the HDMI port on the back(click on the "more images" button at the best buy link to see the back). I set it up and it works perfectly. ![]() The only problem I'm having now is that when I hook up a regular computer monitor(mines a ProView PRO558...I know...I'm cheap) into the bottom blue plug(see besy buy pic again) no image will show up on the screen. It just says no input. I've restarted the computer....didn't work, restarted and unplugged the HDTV...didn't work, I tried going into the nVidia graphics controller...couldn't figure it out, I called HP tech support and this guy gave me some BS saying that because it's not an HP monitor he can't help me. ![]() So please, if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not trying to have 2 different desktops on each screen I'm just trying to have them both display the same thing at the same time...If this is even possible? |

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
I've deleted your other post in Vista support. Please do not post the same question in more than one forum as this causes confusion for the people trying to help you and ultimately for you. Thanks.

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
when you go into the nvidia control panel.it should have options to select which monitor you want to use.in this case with an hdmi, and a dvi? you may need to switch between outputs.

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
ok in my nVidia control panel I can choose
-adjust image settings with preview -change resolution -change flat panel scaling -adjust desktop color settings -rotate display -set up multiple displays -adjust video color settings & -change the signal or HD format I went to the last one and I can't choose are change any preferences then i went to set up multiple displays and selected that my monitor was not on the list. It then asked me to do a rigorous monitor check I did...and I got blue screen of death shortly after It's almost like it's not reading the monitor...but I am 100% sure nothing is wrong with it Last edited by ssjcloud; 12-17-2007 at 12:28 AM. |

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
look under setup multiple displays.see if there is anything in there to let you swap over to the monitor.

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
Setup Multiple Displays
1. Choose the nView display mode to use O - Only use one display (this one is buttoned in because it's the only choice) 2. Select Display you would like to use. SK-32H240S (I'm guessing this is my HDTV) or My display is not shown on the list... (Every time I choose this it asks to do a rigorous search and I let it search and I get the blue screen of death and have to reboot) it also says Description: Standard will drive only a single display from your graphics card Typical usage scenarios -A single display device connected to your graphics card I don't think the blue monitor plug on the bottom is connected to the graphics card...don't know if this helps but.... P.S. my graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Last edited by ssjcloud; 12-17-2007 at 12:52 AM. |

I'm not using the dvi port next to the HDMI port do you think that's the reason it's not working... and if this is true does this mean I have to get a monitor with a dvi plug? |

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
You'll need to wait til Pharoah comes back online I'm afraid, unless someone else jumps in.

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
What kind of graphics card came with it?
EDIT: Nevermind, 8400GS All i can say is im not particulary fond of them, 8500's or higher are better, but thats computer retailers for you, buying cheap stuff. And does the HDMI work fine? You may want to take it to the Geek Squad at your local Best Buy, they usually can hook one of their monitors up to it. Last edited by Jtsou; 12-17-2007 at 10:34 AM. |

Re: Need Help With Double Monitors - Vista
oh ya the HDMI works great...thats how I'm on this forum right now
If anyone has any other helpful information I would greatly appreciate it I do have the 3 year plan at best buy but I really don't want to take it to them cause they might keep it for a day or two P.S. oh and about my 8400 GS card... yes it's not the top of the line but all the better graphics cards in the other computers for sale at best buy didn't have HDMI output...which I personally thought was weird Last edited by ssjcloud; 12-17-2007 at 05:01 PM. |
