Video Card Problem?

Hey,

I'm having a problem trying to install drivers on my BFG 6800GT OC card. Every time I goto install the drivers it reboots in the middle of the installation and when I load back into windows it's like I never tried to install the drivers and it recognizes the card and trys to ask if windows can search for a driver. Tried it in Safe mode and it will let me install them but when I try to boot regular XP it gives me the blue screen. System Bios is updated but adia32 still says "Video Bios is over 2yrs old update if necessary.

It's a 3500+ Amd 64
BFG 6800gt oc
Abit AV8P
1GB TwinMOS

Also the boot screens are all messed up graphics.. Here are a couple pics sorry for the quality.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Video Card Problem?

Hello and Welcome to TSF.

I think you may have a problem with the video card itself, because your video corruption is occurring on the post screen, before Windows drivers come into play.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS?
Do you have access to another video card to test in your system?
Can you test your card in another system?
Make sure the video card is clean of dust and the fan is working.
What drivers version are you trying to install?

Thats what I was afraid of! Goodthing they have a lifetime warrenty >_>

I tried clearing the CMOS it didn't do anything.
I'm going to see if I can get ahold of my friend's card to swap them real quick.

The both the fans on the card are working.
The version I tried was 81.94 but I will try a little older version as I believe the original drivers that came on the CD are 6x.xx

Thanks for the quick reply!!

When I emailed BFG about it they told me to check the BIOS but when I updated.. nothing changed.

Re: Video Card Problem?

Ver 84.21 is the most stable release for your card. I'm using the same release for my 7800GT with no issues at all.
The link for the 84.21 release can be found in the link below along with a link to Driver Cleaner. Use it DC to remove you old nvidia drivers and then install the newer drivers.

stickies

Let me know the results of swapping video cards.

Re: Video Card Problem?

When you get those blocks of lines before Windows has loaded, it's usually faulty video RAM, possibly caused by overheating. Were they there even before you updated the driver?

Open the case and point a desk fan at the card. Do the lines disappear or decrease?

I will try that before I ship the card out. I've been talking with BFG about it and they said the same thing about the Ram on the video card. They want to warranty it for me. So I will be shipping it out today, any ideas about what to pack it in as they said don't send it in the original case.

Thanks.
