Which one will do better in the long run?

Please gimme a link for the best out of either class.

The best in the long run would be a 8800 GTS pci-e 2.0. Pci-e 2.0 is the future.

Pci-e 2.0 cards will work in a regular pci-e 16x board. And yes they make boards that have pci-e 2.0 slots.

the 8800 GT is also PCI-E 2.0. Mine cost $300 and it was pre-overclocked. made by Galaxytech. I would prefer the GT over the GTS because yes the GTS has 620MB, but it takes 2 slots. 2 GT's take 2 slots, and the total for it is 1 Gig of video. Plus if your an OC'er u can OC the hell out of the GT.

8800 GTS:
Core clock-500 MHz Shader clock-1200 MHz memory clock-800 MHz texture fill rate- 24 Billion/sec

8800 GT:
Core clock- 600 MHz Shader Clock- 1500 MHz memory clock- 900 MHz texture fill rate- 33.6 billion/sec

Note that the shaders are faster meaning if you turned up anti aliasing and such stuff like that it will keep up much better and not get bogged down as fast, though anti aliasing in itself will still eat up any video card.

So you can see that the GT is a bit faster also than the GTS. Run two together and you'll be blazing. Your only real issue is going to be cooling, they run pretty hot at stock temps. Ive not done any mods to mine yet, as im waiting for the GT designed waterblock so i can implement water cooling. There are other solutions youll be able to find for it also if ur not into that. Also 2 slot coolers are more efficent the 1 slot coolers. I would not reccomend oc'ing a video card without a proper cooler

ah i see the GTS u recommended, it is indeed superior to the GT. I pulled the specs on my reply from the nvidia website, on the 620 mb version. So yes, i stand corrected Jtsou, emosun's recommendation is a very good one =)

its close. the gts has been upgraded to match the 112 ROPS only very recently. this was because compared to the old GTS (im not joking), the GT was better. Now its about even, the decision comes down to your monitor resolution and the memory bandwidth needed.
