Re: comp crashing when playing games

It could be that your onboard graphics isn't powerful enough to run these games. Have they ever worked on this computer? Do you get any error mesages or a blue screen?

Rome Total War system requirements (graphics):

Quote:
DirectX 9.0b 3D hardware Accelerator Card Required - 100% DirectX 9.0b compatible 64MB Hardware Accelerated video card and the latest drivers:
ATI Radeon 7200
ATI Radeon 8500
ATI Radeon 9000
ATI Radeon 9500
ATI Radeon 9600
ATI Radeon 9700
ATI Radeon 9800
All Nvidia GeForce 2 and higher

Important Note: *Some 3D accelerator cards with the chipsets listed here may not be compatible with the 3D acceleration features utilized by Rome: Total War. Please refer to your hardware manufacturer for 100% DirectX 9.0b compatibility.
World Of Warcraft system requirements (graphics):

32 MB 3D graphics card with hardware Transform and Lighting, such as GeForce 2 or better.
Does the game require a 3D accelerator?
Yes, the game will require a 3D graphics card. Again, we will support a wide range of 3D cards.
The fact that the games start and then take a very short time to crash could indicate overheating or a weak PSU. Run SpeedFan at startup with no programs running and copy down all the temperatures and PSU voltages. Leave it running and start any 3D game that won't crash for a few minutes. While playing, alt-tab back to the desktop and note the temps/volts. Post back with both sets of figures so we can see how your computer copes under stress compared with at rest.

Re: comp crashing when playing games

Have these games ever worked on this computer or is it a new problem after a hardware upgrade?

igfxtray.exe lets you configure the Intel Integrated Display Adapter from the systray icon. It can be removed if causing problems, but I still think you need a proper graphics card to play these games.

Re: comp crashing when playing games

What graphics slots does your motherboard have, PCI, AGP or PCI-e?
