Too Hot!
High everyone
![]() While playing cod 4 i get about half an hour into the game and suddenly my pc just decides to shut down, like as if my video card is too hot and shuts down like in an emergency so it doesnt fry, but ive read in one topic that most cards can take up to 90c standard. I have a x1950xtx ati 3d connect 512 ggdr4, that is on 75c on full load. Is this the problem or is it my processor, my processors is around 42c. I have played for up to 2 hours on multiplayer and that works fine, its just singleplayer gameplay. In the bios, its got something like overheating shutdown on the processor but that has been disabled, i havent seen anything for the video card. Hope ya can help me out, or advise on a good video cooler, thanks. |

Re: Too Hot!
Howdy Antec9000
42c is not hot at all.. And 75c for a video card is a little on the high side. As those can get even higher... I would suggest getting like a 120mm fan (just a regualr case fan) and putting it right on the card. What I did unless you want to spend some money on somthing like this (also what I bought) it supports our cards. And will bring that 75c down to around 35c.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835116017

Re: Too Hot!
NO, no! I very much doubt it is temperature related. I would very much be suspicious of your power supply unit. Are you overclocking any of your components? Download PC Wizard from here http://www.cpuid.com/download/pcw2008_v180.exe and post you key specifications as well.

Re: Too Hot!
I too suspect the power supply with the temps you have listed. When you run the program that bigfella gave you, then we will know more about the components and be better able to judge.
Be sure to list the make and wattage of that power supply and while you are at it, look on the side of the PSU and list the amps per rail for the +12 rail.

Re: Too Hot!
Ok thanks. Open your box, and post what PSU you have. We are intersted in the manufacturer, model, wattage and anything else you can see. Also, while you are there is there a dust problem?

Re: Too Hot!
Thanks dude. It helps when someone provides good details! BUT, i am not sure what is going on actually. One thing i would say is upate directx here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
I am not sure about that PSU to be honest. I will ask a few guys to have a look.

Re: Too Hot!
any good high quality 700 watt PSU is going to have more amps on the 12volt rails than 16 !

Re: Too Hot!
Thanks Linderman. Antec can you borrow a better PSU to see if that stops the restarts? I still think the PSU is the problem.

Re: Too Hot!
Doby hit the nail on the head. The +12v rail is way below specs and would not permit a computer to operate properly if the voltage as give at 11.1 on that rail is correct. We do need the brand name of the PSU you have and check as suggested by my team mate Doby.

Re: Too Hot!
Thanks on the feed back guys, much appreciated thanks.
This PSU of mine is only say 6 months old and cost me roughly 80 pounds, i thought for a price like that it must be good, but thats not always the case. LOL Im gona get my step-dad's voltage meter and test it see what it says ill let him do it he's a qualified sparks for 20 years or so... Anyways ill try the BIOS and see what the both reading weigh out as! As from where i got it, It was from a place called 'MAPLIN ELECTRONICS', ill try dig out the info from site and post it. Thanks again guys! P.S. I wouldnt know where to try the voltage on a 12v rail, would that be the 4pin connector?? |
