sorta. like you meen evga and evga? its reccomended, not required though. just as long as it has same amount of vram, bandwith, and clock speeds.

I have two 7600GTs from eVGA. They've got some minor differences but all the clocks are the same so SLI goes without a hitch.

With nVidia's new drivers the cards don't need to be from the same manufacturer although the GPUs need to be the same. This can be a bit misleading at first because it sounds like two of the same video chipsets (ex. G84 paired with G84) will work but they need to be at the same clock speed meaning only 8600GT with 8600GT as stated. You can pair two cards with different memory sizes as far as I know because that is independent of the chipset however this can lead to load balancing issues so it is not recommended.
