VHS Capture on PC to DVD

Hi Guys,

I HAVE recently started converting VHS Videos into DVD for friends by connection my VCR to my built in TV Card on my PC. However I am in need of advice as to what is the best format in which to record the VHS video onto my computer for superior results. I am having some difficulties and have experienced mixed results, as sometimes the sound goes out of sync and sometimes the videos are very long and I need to compress it using software called Divxtodvd.

Also will it be wise to install dedicated Video and or sound Capture cards?. cards

On my PC I use a PCI video capture card and capture audio with my sound card. To convert I use VirtualDub.
