8600gts.

Just make sure you have enough 'Juice' (power) to run the card.

Re: New Video Card Help

256bit (7900) vs 128bit (8600) is the biggest difference. its the bandwith, and this is not nearly a good enough example but its like 128K dial up and 256K. the 8600 does have faster clock speeds, but the bandwith difference makes up for it and more, as the 7900 regularly outperforms the 8600.

Re: New Video Card Help

roughly the same. the x1950 is just BARELY better, but it is really your decision. it does have a very loud fan on high (i have an x1950pro). what games do you play?

Re: New Video Card Help

My roomate has 7900GS and I have a x1950pro at home. Mine runs a little better but unless you get the right one, you might get the case consuming behemoth I got. Mine is Ati but I have seen other brands with the slim form. I would recommend the x1950 but make sure you get the slimform especially if you intend to make use of Pci slots and possibly crossfire.

Re: New Video Card Help

The graphics cards I have to choose from are the 8600GTS, 7900GS, 1950 Pro

I play FPS like Call of duty 4 and source, and some World in Conflict, all the half life's, team fortress, Battlefield 2 and things like that. What kinds of games are you playing and what kind of FPS

Re: New Video Card Help

all valve games pretty much. get passable fps, i dont notice anything, but in the more recent ones (episode 1, episode 2, portal) it heats up and gets loud. css works fine, i play promod but its still source. you really cant go wrong with either.
