Vertical lines on Windows startup - Video
I was watching a movie on the Windows Media Center, and all of the sudden there were these vertical lines on the screen. They won't go away and I have only tried restarting the computer in order to solve this. The lines appear upon the windows start up menu and while I'm watching movies. Is my video card shot?

Re: Vertical lines on Windows startup - Video
Please read these instructions from ATI: http://support.ati.com/ics/support/d...estionID=20870
After you've removed the "old" ATI video driver - download and install this driver: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...=xp/radeonx-xp |

Re: Vertical lines on Windows startup - Video
It sounds like bad video RAM, possibly caused by overheating or a weak PSU. If you can get into Windows, try changing the screen resolution in Control Panel > Display. If the number of vertical lines increases, it's your VRAM.
Check your system temperatures and PSU voltages with SpeedFan. Try running with the case open and a desk fan blowing towards the card. If you don't see any improvement after reducing the case temperatures, then it could be time for a new graphics card.
