Popped when monitor plugged into vga out by mistake?
Hi people,
A monitor was plugged into the VGA/OUT slot on a fx5200 agp8x 128mb tv-out graphics card by mistake. Im told there was a pop and some smoke... could this has blown something on the card? Does it mean new a new one? Thanks |

Re: Popped when monitor plugged into vga out by mistake?
I found that the power supply on the pc had blown, i have power to the pc but nothing appearing on the monitor when it booted up... what could cause this? The monitor is fine as it works on other pcs, would i have to replace a card? How can i diagnose it? HHHEEELLLPPP!
Thanks Arran |

Did you change the PSU? IF so what with?, Do the Fans spin up?
Its possible that the mobo/cpu could of been Fryed with the PSU dying. Try benchtesting the system : How to Bench Test Your System |

Re: Popped when monitor plugged into vga out by mistake?
Yeah, i replaced it with like for like... sum vision ky-500atx 400w p4 switching power supply.
When the pc boots up now i get usual beeps and the fans spin up. The monitor, prior to the power supply blowing was plugged into the tv out slot by mistake, the problems started then. This was on a fx5200 agp8x 128mb tv-out graphics card. Could this have damaged the card, would that stop a picture altogether? |

What beeps do you get?
Whats the specification of the PC? That psu you got isnt very good, although it should still power the machine up. I doubt its your Graphics card thats causing the problem but if you have a spare one sitting around your house test it and see if it works in your pc. |
