Re: Video card running hot?

without knowing your card all i can recommend is looking at the Zalman site for a compatible heatsink/fan.

70/80C is getting on the verge of too hot and if you are constantly at that temp it will do damage.

You can look at the air flow in your case as well. Good air flow is essential, a front fan Blowing cooler air in and a 120mm rear fan ( if possible ) sucking hot air out

Re: Video card running hot?

I have a GeForce 6600 with one side fan,a rear led 80mm fan,and then the cpu fan. The video card has its own fan but i suspect its not running very well.

Re: Video card running hot?

blackduck has made a good suggestion.i would look into an aftermarket cooler for it,or you could add some more case fans for overall better air flow.

Re: Video card running hot?

Well i got it to go down to 55 degrees

Ima install the new 163.71 drivers and see if that changes anything since all the previous drivers ive been installing wrongly.

Re: Video card running hot?

are these idle temps you are posting for the video card?you might also want to check the inside of your pc for a dust buildup in the fans.

Re: Video card running hot? [moved from Gaming]

Would be having the side of the case off make a big impact? Like if i put it back on would that keep the coldness in better? And those temps were while the pc was somewhat idle i was on firefox and had a video in WMP.

Re: Video card running hot? [moved from Gaming]

Removing the side panel is usually a temporary measure to see how it affects temperatures. As already said, you need to keep it closed and have 2 fans to create a path of cool air passing over the motherboard. This is far more effective than an open case.

Check the temps/voltages again while playing a fullscreen 3d game. Alt-tab out of the game and take a screenshot of the readings.

Alright i put the case back on and i took the temps while playing Half Life 2 and for the most part they were the same except the video card went up about 1 or 2 degrees.

Re: Video card running hot? [moved from Gaming]

Is the graphics card fan spinning freely or is it making any kind of unusual noise? Are there any cables above the fan that could be affecting the airflow? Have you looked at the replacement fans suggested by blackduck?
