Need IMMEDIATE help

i have an msi nx8600gts oc and it has a really loud fan but u can mod it by unplugging the 12v fan wire and putting in the 5v wire.
i did tha and the fan doesnt turn on at all. and when i reverted back to 12v it doesnt turn on at all either. Help?!

Another thing, I noticed that there's a plug on my motherboard called PWR_FAN. i was wondering if plugging the video card fan into that will help. will it?

I'm no vid pro here, but I'd guess that plugging in a lower Voltage wire into your fan probably isn't providing enough power to spin it. I'd check on New Egg for some sort of fan speed controller and plugging it into that rather than trying different wires.

If not, wouldn't you rather deal with the noise than risk overheating your GPU?

Undervolting can often be as bad as overvolting.

The PWR_FAN pins on the motherboard are for controlling fans in the PSU. Not many PSU's use this feature anymore.
