What's the difference between these drivers?

I am currently using this.
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT

Driver Version : 6.14.10.8421

However I've come across with this ASUS video card driver.
Do I need both for my video card to perform better?
Or the official Nvidia driver alone is the best choice?

Thanks for any help. :)

Re: What's the difference between these drivers?

Do you have links to the 2 drivers?

The official one from nVidia is Forceware 163.71 released Sept 2007.

Or you could try the optimized Omega driver which is an advanced version of the official driver that has been tweaked for gamers.

Whenever you install a new driver you must remove the existing one first to prevent conflicts. Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager. Click the [+] next to Display Adapters. Right-click the nvidia entry and select Uninstall. Reboot into VGA mode, disable antivirus and install the new driver. Reboot back into normal mode to complete.

Re: What's the difference between these drivers?

Link?
The official one guess i won't needa link.
The ASUS one is this : http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

In my scenario, go to 'General Download' at the top right, selected 'Graphic Card', 'Nvidia' and 'EN 7900 series'. When you proceed, click on 'drivers' then it'll show a list of drivers.
I am wondering how are these different from the Nvidia official ones?
Are they like 'tweaked' versions like those from Omega drivers?

Also, about the Omega driver you posted above, is it a good idea to use it instead of nVidia official 8421 version?

Re: What's the difference between these drivers?

I wouldn't bother with the ASUS drivers. As far as I can tell without actually installing and testing them, they look like older versions of the latest official drivers.

I always use Omega drivers, for both ATI and nVidia cards for higher framerates.

Ahh I see.
So just wanna make sure, for those omega drivers, what matters is your OS right?coz I don't see a specific driver for a specific card.

The link I posted goes straight to the correct driver for your card and OS. You can get to it from the homepage by clicking Nvidia GF at the top of the page and then Win2K/XP. Then click any of the Download buttons, they all link to the same file.

Remember to uninstall your current driver before installing Omega. See post #2 for details.

Alrighty then. Will try it out I guess.
One last thing though, let's say if I don't like omega driver, how do you unistall it cleanly? Control panel ---> add/remove program? Or there's something else I should do?

Re: What's the difference between these drivers?

Same steps as before. Uninstall from Device Manager, reboot to VGA mode, disable antivirus, install new driver, reboot.

Re: What's the difference between these drivers?

Ok tried to install omega driver, but don't think it works for me.
What I did was remove my nvidia driver from add/remove program, reboot into safe mode, disable internet and anti virus, run driver cleaner to purge nvidia.
I tried to install in VGA mode and normal windows mode but both have the same problem.

It's like when you drag a window there's screen tearing, like a trail.
I tried to activate Oblivion, it said something about rendering sorry but I forgot what exactly it said.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Forgot to say, anti virus was not running when i installed the drivers.
