Monitor Problems?
I recently bought a computer for my work from a friend of mine. Its a windows XP pentium 4, with 512 RAM and a 1.8 processor, and a 32 bit graphics card. The whole thing was running fine, but my son wanted to play some games on it, and realizing I had an ATI 128 graphics card laying around I decided to put it in. I opened it up and took out the old 32 bit graphics card and put the same one back in (a stupid mistake I know) and it worked fine. Realizing what I had done rebooted and put the 128 in and booted it up. But when I boot it up the monitor doesnt. Its powered and everything but it just says "Power saving mode ON shutting of in 5 seconds" I messed around with the cables im pretty sure they are in properly, I tried to put the old graphics card back in but the same thing is happening. I brought down a different monitor that works fine on my other computer and the same thing happens. I'm sorry I have had the 128 for a long time and I dont know the model or anything and im not entirely sure about its functionality. Any ideas?

Re: Monitor Problems?
OK by using the model number and google I was able to find out that the one I was putting in when the problem started was an ATI Rage 128 Pro Ultra GL
4x AGP 16MB The one that was originally in and was put back in afterwards is a Matrox g45fmdha32db 32 MB Graphics Card maximum Resolution: 2048 x 1536 Pixels - RAMDAC Speed: 360 MHz - With Multiple Monitor Support I hope that helps. |

Re: Monitor Problems?
The card I had in the computer originally was working for some time. Could putting in an incompatible card make it so my original card would no longer work? Both my cards are 3.3/1.5v, or could a card that was compatible with the BIOS somehow stop being compatible with the BIOS?

Re: Monitor Problems?
Try clearing the CMOS by removing the small coin like battery from the motherboard. Leave it out for about 10mins and reinstall. If the system now POSTs you'll need to enter BIOS and load setup defaults set your time and date, save and exit.
Post back with your results. |

Re: Monitor Problems?
No I dont. I think I have a 1.6 somwhere but nothing better.I figured out my monitor says "Power saving mode shut of in 5" whenever it doesnt have a connection with something. It says it if there is no cable attached to it.

What power supply do you have? Make, model, wattage, amps per rail? This info can be found inside the PC on a sticker on the side of the power supply. |

Re: Monitor Problems?
It could be the problem, Delta power supplies aren't the greatest, and judging from your system specs, that one is a atleast a couple of years old. So it could've decided it was time to retire. Do you have a standard PCI video card that you could try?
BTW, the Matrox card is the better of the two cards you have, but neither will support many games. |
