hdmi problem

Just bought a new Sony Vaio laptop which came with Nvidia Geforce 8400M GT.

I bought an external Viewsonic monitor, VX2835wm 27". I also have an HDMI
cable between the monitor and my Sony. The quality on the Viewsonic is distorted
even though it works fine with a regular VGA cable.

I have 1920x1200 resolution (max) and 60Hz refresh rate. I don't know why its not
working well on my Belkin HDMI cable. Its fully plugged into and I selected HDMI
as input option in the monitor's panel. Strange thing is, auto adjust is disabled in HDMI
mode which I do not understand why. I tried 59Hz as well, same problem.

Can someone explain?

I'm using Vista Ultimate

Specs:
Sony Vaio VGN-FZ190
Vista Ultimate
Nvidia Geforce 8400M GT (256MB dedicated, 734MB shared)
HDMI cable (Belkin)
Viewsonic VX2835wm 27"
1280x800 laptop / 1920x1200 monitor 60hz each

· VBIOS: v7.15.0011.0111
