Hi there and welcome to TSF.
Is this a laptop or desktop and how old is it? Have you tried things like changing the screen resolution?

Re: lines and blocks accross screen. not cool. need help

Is it a CRT or TFT monitor?

Check your refresh rate in the display properties, it may be too high for the monitor, also try going down a few notches on the resolution.

If none of these work, and it’s a CRT, then the tube may be on it’s way out, however there are a few other things to check.

Firstly, it could be a bad contact between the video card (if you have one) and the PCI/AGP slot. Maybe try removing it, and give it a gentle wipe with a dry, static free cloth, or just blow some air over it.

Also check that the cables from the monitor to the video card are ok with no loose connections.

You didn't say if was laptop or desktop. If it's a desktop, can you borrow another monitor to try? If so and the problem persists, then it's likely to be your video card. If the problem goes then it looks like your monitor is faulty.

OK. In that case, can you borrow a monitor as I suggest or alternatively can you try your monitor on another machine?

Was that trying a different monitor on your machine or your monitor on a different machine?

Re: lines and blocks accross screen. not cool. need help

In that case it looks like your video card or the cable to your monitor. You could try reinstalling the drivers for your card.

It's possible. I'll move your thread to Video Card support and see if anyone in the Hardware Team can help.
