Hello,
Can anyone provide technical assistance on upgrading the power supply for a Sony VAIO VGC-RA840G. According to specs, this desktop comes with an ATI Radeon® X300, 128 DDR SDRAM video card and the Power Requirements is 364.7 watts max. / 100-240V ~7A (50/60Hz). I assume this is the power supply's rating. I purchased new software, like most new games that requires a better video card to run. So, I purchased an ATI x1650 Pro video card but noticed it requires a 550 Watt or better power supply to run. I need figure out if my current power supply can be upgraded? More specifically, if I purchase an aftermarket power supply rated at 550 watts or better will everything plug in with no problems? And, will the output voltages from the new power supply damage any of the Sony installed hardware or motherboard? Thanks. |

Re: Sony VAIO VGC-RA840G Video Card Upgrade Problem
Hi Will,
![]() From what I can tell that desktop uses a standard ATX Power Supply. You might want to quickly measure the dimensions first though. It should be 150mm x 140mm x 86mm. If you can take some pictures of the power supply, it would help. Sony does not have any record of using any proprietary power supplies in their desktops, so you should be all set. Take a look at these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371002 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371001
