FREEZING TV ON HP M8100n

I recently got the HP m8100n with Vista. Plugged in my cable TV (no box; just direct) into the box and started watching TV through Windows Media Center. My cable provider is Comcast.

While watching all channels, I get some freezing; which lasts from about a 10th of a second up to a second long. But the freezing happens sporatically, averaging once every three seconds. It happens when minimal processes are running. I changed out my monitor (other reasons) and have a new 5ms 800:1 product and still, same behavior. The audio is always flawless.

When I go to my "screen refresh rate" settings, it's on 60 hertz. My only options are 59 or 60.

Clearly, I'd like the freezing (or flickering) to stop. Can anyone help me out on this?

Re: FREEZING TV ON HP M8100n

Hello???

I noticed that if I enlarge the window (MS Media Center), the problem becomes worse.

Does it do this on all channels? What about on another TV?

Re: FREEZING TV ON HP M8100n

try changing your screen resolution through the media center, go to tasks then settings, then to tv settings, then to set up screen, or something, anyways there is an option eventually to change screen resolution and put to a lower resolution lile 900X whatever, i called HP and spent over 4 hrs trying all of their fixes which did nothing, to the point of pulling out the tv card and putting it back in, which is stuff that just scares the crap outta me, felt like i was mission impossible. I've got the exact same pc as you and the HP 2207 monitor if that helps anything at all.

Re: FREEZING TV ON HP M8100n

Matt, If I understand you correctly, I'm not using a TV, I'm using the video card and watching on my monitor. It's happening on all channels.

mchristie; did you ever resolve your problem?

What I mean is try hooking it up to a TV to see if its a problem there. I doubt it is, but it might be worthwhile just to check.

Did you run the Media Center Setup? In Media Center, go to Settings > General > Media Center Setup.

Re: FREEZING TV ON HP M8100n

I have the m8100n also, connected to a envision 19" widescreen monitor with 8ms response time, I am also a custom home electronics installer by trade. I use a HDTV antenna and I experience the same problem, although not that frequently. From my experience it seems the I reciever the video freezing when trying to watch live HD programming. Seems fine with SD programming. Could this be a video card issue? Also, it was recommended to connect to another to, my m8100n does not have a tv output.

Also, not sure if this is related, but it seems since I setup media center a fews days ago, I am getting totally random crashes, usually with media center open. Everything freezes, including keyboard and mouse, control+alt+delete doesn't bring up task manager and no options for fixes come up. I am always forced to do a hard reset. Which works till the next freeze.

Re: FREEZING TV ON HP M8100n

this is somewhat resolved. I uninstalled the video driver, reinstalled it and then reset everything in the Media Center. It worked when Media Center window is about 1/4 to 1/3 of the screen. When I go full screen, it'll start up again. The full screen resolution is crappy and because of that, I tend to watch TV with a smaller screen.
