Video card upgrade becomes downgrade.

I just upgraded from a 7600GT KO 256mb card to a X1950XT 512mb card and all my games look the same but my fps is about 1/2 of what I got on my 7600GT KO. I am using ATI Catalyst 7.8 drivers. Is there a way to improve what im getting out of the X1950XT?

Specs:
Gecube X1950XT 512mb
2GB DDR SDRAM @400mhz
Amd Athlon X2 4200+ @ 2.2ghz
200GB HD
ThermalTake 430Watt PSU

Re: Video card upgrade becomes downgrade.

Apparently the card I chose has 1400mhz memory clock while most of the other X1950XT cards have 1800mhz memory clock and are cheaper. Should I get one of the 256mb ones with 1800mhz memory clock?

Edit:I also noticed after a while things like stain my screen and wont go away till I move it. Like when browsign through files the back and forward button sometimes get distorted along with other buttons. When I move my mouse over they go back to normal.

Re: Video card upgrade becomes downgrade.

I would start by upgrading the PSU because the one you have is far to weak and may be limiting the cards performance.

Can you provide a link to the card?

Re: Video card upgrade becomes downgrade.

Do you have another quality 550+w PSU you can try to see if it makes a difference?

Re: Video card upgrade becomes downgrade.

Those temps look good (in the future, please use metrics). But your +12v is looking a little low. If those are idle voltages, the load voltages are probably much lower.

You might want to go a store like CompUSA and see how much they charge for a restocking fee. Pick up an Antec Trio 550w (or preferably 650w) and see if it fixes the issue.

Re: Video card upgrade becomes downgrade.

Before I do that what is a better way to connect power to the video card? The 2x3pin adapter or the 6pin?

Both are the same connector if I am understanding you correctly.

Re: Video card upgrade becomes downgrade.

I will probably post my next response in about 2 weeks after I manage to get an Antec Trio 550watt since that seems to be an amazing power supply. Ill post my resuslts after it arrives and hopefully that solves the problem.
