Heya yatsey, unfortunately, I'm getting the same problem after updating to SP2. It's stuck on 640 by 480 pixels and Lowest (4 bit) for me. My I.E also keeps crashing on the computer as well now. I'm not sure whats going on, but a whole bunch of MDM files are popping up as icons on my desktop, it's altogether a very nasty image.

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
I dont have a CD with the Driver on it, my aunt never got disks when she bought this system from someone, and the internet keeps encountering problems where it asks me if I would like to send a report or not, everytime I open it up >.<

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
without internet access you're going to have some issues - the best suggestion I have is find a working computer and download the drivers on it, and burn them to a CD

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
Is there a way I can roll back to SP1? or I have a Windows 98 disc, would I be able to reformat with that? The only thing I would be worried about is the drivers, cause they dont have any of the discs :s Or I could plain outright tell her that her computer is toast unless she buys some new discs.

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
I dont look at myself as a computer technician, I know a great deal about them. My aunt called me up because she knows im rather good with computers, and asked me if I knew anything about viruses. I said that I was just begining to learn about them, but that I could take a look at the computer for her if she wanted, telling her and making her fully aware that im not a professional and that I might not be able to fix it. I asked her first thing if she had any discs, she said no, because after hearing she had a virus, I wanted to reformat the computer. She didnt have any because she bought the computer from a friend of hers. She brought the computer over and I looked at it. During my research of the virus' I found this site so I posted a log about it because I was interested in what everyone did for eachother here, I thought it was a great thing, and so far the only complain I have is people like you saying things like that, its not very nice. Anyways, Ried helped me with the viruses then told me to update to sp2 so I did, and the graphics screwed up... dont be so mean to me.

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
I just got a send error report saying that i have a problem being caused by Intel Storage driver (IdeChnDr.sys) that its not longer supported by the manufacturer and to possibly fix it by removing it.

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
OK. Lets see what we can do. Oh, and just over look some things that some people say. By reading the post the user is not good with English, and might have come across the wrong way. Just to see what happens, click start, run, type cmd, type sfc /scannow. It might want the disk, which you don't have, but lets see what happens. Also, can you restore further back from safemode? How long ago was your HJT session?

Remove it and see how things run.

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
my HJT session was only a few days ago, the furthest I can go back to is yesterday at 10am, but it wont allow me to, it restarts after restore and says that nothing has been changed because it cant restore back to that date.

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
Well, the session was a few days ago, and I believe they have you create a clean restore point, so you should be able to go back that far, but you can't. By the way, I noticed you hijacked someone elses thread. You need to start you own next time
. I thought I was helping the original poster. Anyway, whats changed from the time you did the HJT session and when this started? Auto-updates? Other updates? When you said you had this problem before, was it pre or post the HJT session?

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
I didnt mean to hijack this post, I just stated how I was havin the same problem then everyone just kinda kept asking me things, sorry about that. What happened was after me and Ried finsihed fixing the computer, I asked him if I should update it via auto updates. It did amassive series of like 47 updates, restarted, was fine, then it said there were more updates it needed to do via auto update, so it did them, it installed sp2, restarted, then the graphics came back all blocky like and it almost has a look of classic view with xp view mixed together, with horrible blocky images for colors.

Re: XP forcing me to use 640x480 8bit
So we know we have corrupted systems files, which have to be repaired. That puts us in a pickle. You can try borrowing someones disk and doing a sfc /scannow, or you can by an upgrade xp disk. Without restore access, I just don't see another way of repairing without a disk. Let me PM someone...
