suddenly unable to change screen resoltion

Hi iam hving trouble changing my screen resolution back 1024 x 768
i get a message saying out of range
Can you please help

what video card ? what resolution is it at right now ? also this could have been due to a change in the monitors frequency. make soure that the monitor is adjusted to the regular level or default. reset the monitor to default and in windows make sure the monitor is set to a low herz level and see if it will then work.

I am unale to change the refresh rate.
I only have a use hardware default setting

I have tried that but they reinstall when i reboot.
and is has an exclamation mark on is in sytem properties

in the device manager uninstall the card
reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode
when windows finishes rebooting
disable a/virus
install your drivers
reboot the computer

Thankyou so far however that doesn't work either it still installs automatically
The device status is This device cannot start. (Code 10)

code 10=driver not installed
you need to post what the card is you were asked for the info in the first reply

When you say "installs automatically", are you referring to Windows installing it? If so, does it give you the option to "cancel" that installation because it's probably causing a conflict of two programs trying to install drivers.

starting in vga mode stops windows from installing it's version

After uninstalling the driver when i reeboot an icon appears in the task bar
with a comment found new hardware Video Controller (VGA) Compatable then the screen goes black for a second then then it says Found New Sis 630/730
I then have the exclamation in the device manager Display Adapter Sis 630/730

the drver for the sis chip will be on your m/board setup cd
