Problems with Galaxy Geforce 7900GS on AGP
Hi. I habe bought this graphic card two weeks ago. It ran smoothly for a week an then started to freeze ingame or desktop. When I run Oblivion itfreezes in the launcher menu. If I enter the game directly it runs a few minutes then freezes. In other not so demanding games I can play longer but it still freezes. I installed latest drivers for video card, reinstalled OS,updated BIOS,installed VIAGart driver and even changed my PSU with a Spire rockeeter 420W but the problem persist. Do I need to connect a certain molex on the card? I think it doesnt recieve enogh power because if I underclock it I can play longer but still freezes. It ran perfectly for a week and suddenly started to cause this problem.
My specs are : AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1,5 Gb ddr 400 HDD Maxtor 80 Gb Mobo A7V600-X And a combo cd-rom/rw DVD-ROM |

Re: Problems with Galaxy Geforce 7900GS on AGP
Spire rockeeter 420W = Poor PSU
I would look into something with a better brand such as OCZ, Antec, Forton (FSP). check the tempreture of the CPU. Also, if there is a Space to plug in a molex connector, Do so. See the top right of this picture, Thats where the Molex Plugs in ( If needed )

Re: Problems with Galaxy Geforce 7900GS on AGP
I have plugged in the molex because the video card doesnt start if I dont.
Im still wondering why the vid card ran about a week powered by a noname PSU ( powerlink). Is possible that PSU got exhausted? |

Re: Problems with Galaxy Geforce 7900GS on AGP
Well, it seems that not the PSU is the problem. I tested the card on other computer with a 300W noname PSU and there were no problems. I think my AGP bus got unstable because when I lowered it from 8X to 2X the sistem was stable for about 3 hours.

Re: Problems with Galaxy Geforce 7900GS on AGP
I have EXACTLY the same problems. My PSU is a FSP (Fortron) 400W with 2 independent 12v@18A rails. So the PSU can't be the problem.
I think it's the AGP interface as on another computer works fine. I had the same problems with another card (Radon 9600) on a different computer, just that for that card I could find a AGP setting that would work. For this I can't. The card worked fine (even OC'd to 633/1800) for a week or so. Then started freezing in games. I can still play some games (W 40k:DOW, 2d games..etc) but on intensive GPU games it freezes within 2 mins. IF I downclock the GPU to 350-400 I can play for 2hrs or so then freezes. WHAT SHOULD I DO? IF I TRY TO FLASH THE VGA BIOS WITH ANOTHER DO I LOOSE THE WARRANTY? The heatsink on the PCI-AGP bridge on the card is VERY LOOSE/ has crappy contact with the chip. temps aren't that hich though. Could this chip be borked? |
