[SOLVED]Low performance
Hi I hope you guys can help me.....bit concerned as there isa no mention of Nvidia........is that a bad word around here? I was an ati man for years
![]() I always keep up to date with the latest drivers, and a few weeks ago I replaced my old card for a Nvidia 7800 GT. I play golf on line and it seems to work great. I have had a few problems with windows xp lately and put in a couple of new hardrives. I try and keep my computer running well and often visit PCpitstop which I find is great. However with my last driver and this one I am getting the following message. "Unusually Low Video Performance Video performance of this system, 63.93 megapixels per second, is significantly lower than average" "About Video Performance Systems with the same processor and amount of memory typically perform at a level of 234 Mp/s. PC Pitstop's video test measures the 2D performance of the video board, which is used to draw windows, icons, and fonts on typical desktop applications such as word processors and browsers. It does not measure the 3D capabilities used by high-end games." I was a bit concerend when I saw this when I installed my last driver. I just checked and found there is yet another new driver out...so I installed it........before i did anything I took a visit to PCpitstop and everything was great.....only my internet connestion was dodgy....Thailand you understand ![]() I then chnaged my screen resolution to 1152 x 864, my screen refresh rate to 75 hertz (screen supports that) and my colour quality to highest 32 bit. Visisted pcpitstop and up pops the message again. TRUTH: I have absolute not a clue about video cards or their drivers......I do, however want the best out of my card and would appreciate any help you guys can give me. Please imagine you are talking to a retarded idiot and explain it to me in the simplest terms.......Until a year ago I thought a BIOS was someone who thinks his football team are the greatest in the world even althought they were just relegated.

Re: Low performance
I don't see your card on this list but you may know where your card ranks compared to these other cards. Check out this link and see if this helps.

Re: Low performance
I'm Window xp / It's definately not my Power Supply, I had a new power supply unit installed when I changed from ATI to Nvidia> because the one I had wasn't powerful enough. Nvidia has a built in warning that comes up if you are under-powered.

Sometimes when switching video cards especially when going from ati to nvida the drivers don't get completely removed and rements are left behind Download and install drivercleaner, remove your video drivers thru add/remove programs then boot into safe mode and run drivercleaner. Remove any driver relating to video with drivercleaner then install the latest drivers for your card. Then visit pcpitstops again and see what they say. |

Re: Low performance
Thank you for the link I had another driver cleaner which came up as a rougue on a scan. Needed that
![]() I just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows xp and I am getting the same result. What I did discover is that if I leave the colour at 24 bit then the LOW PERFORMANCE doesn't show up on the test. Should I be able to have 32 bit without any trouble? Can this be related to a low performing CPU? I had to buy a second hand CPU that seems to run fine but i can't be sure. Its a Pentium 4 3G 178 connection which is no longer sold here. |

Re: Low performance
I can't see how the cpu would have anything to do with it.
Yes you should be able to run 32 bit. Since you reformatted drivers from the old card can't have anything to do with it, I would try a older driver even if you have to go back two versions. What version driver are you running? |

Re: Low performance
Its the latest one from nvidia the 162.18...I am reinstalling everything at the moment as I got infected with "new win32" yesterday.........little norton crack that's going around :0)
I had the driver that came with the card installed and the result was the same. I must say the card itself is great. I play Tiger Woods golf on line and haven't had one hint of lag......my previous card couldn't handle it and it was forever freezing. Once I have reinstalled everything I will get back to you |

Re: Low performance
Hi I just got a telling off from a guy on the nvidia forum and he told me if I wanted to check my card properly, I should dowload a program called 3DMARK06.
I went ahead and it tested my system and card. Scored quite well on everything except my CPU but overall it was nothing like what pcpitstop indicated as far as low perfomance goes. Thanks for your input if you hadn't have suggested me checking out my driver I wouldn't have found the other site. I went there to ask which driver they would recommend and a member put me on to the aforementioned. Hope I can return the favour sometime. |

Re: Low performance
Thanks for the info, seems pcpitstops has a bug atleast with the systems like yours, I sorta suspected this could be the case but wanted to try some things first.
But I agree if the system gets good 3DMARK scores then you have no problem. "The Guy" on the nvidia forum should not have been so rude, you won't find that at TSF |
