need video card help

hey guys, i need some of your supreme knowledge here. i'm deciding between two different laptops wth different videocards and pretty much the same specifications otherwise. here are my two choices: (i bolded the major differences, including the videocards)

choice one:
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
Intel Core 2 DuoT7300 (2.00 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
15.4" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
2GB DDR2 (2 Dimm)
383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support

choice two:
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic Edition
Intel Core 2 DuoT7500(2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)

okay so those are the two laptops. which do you think i should get... which one will have optimum videocard-usage? i also thought should include that the computer should be able to play the sims2 on high settings.

thanks for all your help in advance!

Re: need video card help

I would choose the second one. Personally, I would wipe Vista and get XP, but if you like Vista then definitely.

Not knowing the brand, though, I would be hesitant to choose one for sure. Take a look at this:

ABS is one of the highest quality manufacturers IMO and that is a very good laptop.

the first is an hp and the second is a dell.. do you have any opinions on that? does the .2 ghz difference make a big deal? also does the fact that the first choice has more mb on the videocard change anything?

Re: need video card help

The 8400GS will be less powerful than the 8600GT no matter how much memory each has.

I have found ABS laptops to be better overall quality and both HP and Dell. Higher quality parts are less likely to fail.

abs seems to be quite a bit above the price range that i plan to pay for a laptop, or else i would definitely get one.

Re: need video card help

Thats what you will pay for good quality. The price will probably break even because you will spend less on repairs later.
