8600 Gts or 8800 Gts?
I know the 8800 is better, but is it worth the extra $$ for it?
Im on a tight budget and if the 8600 will do really good, im gonna go for it. EDIT: I may eventually get the 8600's in SLI mode, would that be good? Last edited by Jtsou; 08-08-2007 at 07:47 PM. |

Re: 8600 Gts or 8800 Gts?
I think in the long run, the 8600 is a stopgap that can't compare to the 8800. Even in sli (which I think is overhyped), you won't be happy unless you go for the 8800, even though the cost is much greater.
If you are strapped for a budget, then get the 8600 and resell it on Ebay when you have the bucks to get the "real deal." Don't count on two 8600 cards to suffice if you want the best. That is my opinion.

Re: 8600 Gts or 8800 Gts?
That would be my advice to you. Counting on sli will not meet what you expect from a pure 8800. Just make sure your power supply is up to the task. You might be wise to use any extra bucks to bolster your power supply, because when you go to the 8800, you will need more power if your supply isn't up to snuff. Let us know if we can help.

Re: 8600 Gts or 8800 Gts?
I'm in a similar situation, and yes I agree that SLi way overhyped!
Will an Enermax 600psu be good for a 8800? I don't care for XFX, but should i get MSI or BFG, and which model? Thank You

I would recommend a 700+ watt; ie: Silverstone, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, Thermaltake Toughpower (no other series from this company), OCZ (they are a great price right now) for a quality power supply. You know, it might be a good idea for you to take a look HERE before you purchase a new power supply:

Re: 8600 Gts or 8800 Gts?
If it is on there and working, then try it. My guess is that it should do fine with the 8600 for now. Enermax is a very strong supply if you get a good one. When you get the 8800, then I would get something larger with more power.
