abysmal 3dmark05 scores (bottom 5% of comparable systems..)

my specs:

3.0ghz p4 with 800mhz fsb
ecs pt800ce-a mobo
512mb pc2100 ddr ram
geforce 6600 gt 128mb (agp version)
onboard sound
a few 7200rpm hard drives and a dvdrw
windows xp sp2

I ended up getting a score of 2322... Among comparable systems I was 267th out of 273. The lowest score was 986, while the highest was 6353.

What is going on? I know 512mb isn't a lot of ram, but I'm sure that out of those other 272 computers a good portion of them likely had the same. I have the latest version of directx, the newest geforce drivers, no serious applications were running during the tests and I reformatted and reinstalled windows just 2 months ago.

I just think there must be some big, glaring mistake/problem for me to get such a poor score, but I'm drawing a blank on what that could be right now.

The RAM might be it. See if you can get a dual channel pair of DDR 400 MHz DIMMs.

Re: abysmal 3dmark05 scores (bottom 5% of comparable systems..)

Hey... I'm having the same kind of issue... 35/35 of comparable systems on 3DMark '06... Last time I checked I got about a 4400 score, but I can't exactly remember, and I'm too lazy to run it again... Point is, I'm last in comparable systems... =(
Can't figure out for the life of me what's up...

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Processor
-->(Intel Core 2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz x2)
My Motherboard
4.0GB (~3.24GB Used because I'm on 32-bit WinXP) DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon X1950PRO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCIE Graphics Card
Onboard Sound
320GB 7200RPM Western Digital HDD
Windows XP SP2

Sorry about HiJackin' the thread, but I figured it was better than starting a new one... So, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what component is draggin' me down so much? I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!
-Zack

Have you installed the Intel Application Accelerator? Not sure if it is available for that chipset, but check Intel's downloads page for it and install it if it is.

Hmm.. Never heard of that... This is what I found, but I don't see anything anywhere about Chipset Compatibility... Should I try one of those?

Thanks!

Re: abysmal 3dmark05 scores (bottom 5% of comparable systems..)

I just checked, the Intel App accelerator is for the Intel 8xx series chipsets and for some reason doesn't support the 9xx series. I don't know why Intel discontinued support for it because it was a great little program.

Another thing you can do is download Cacheman and set the profile to Games. This will give you a nice boost in games especially if you have 2 GB of RAM.

Also try some of these drivers:
97.02
97.44
97.92

Will do once this diskcheck is done.

thanks!

EDIT: I don't use NVidia OR Win. Media Center Edition. I'm using ATI Radeon x1950Pro on Win XP... Should I still get those drivers? O.o

Thanks Again,
Zack

Sorry, my mistake. Take a look at these drivers:
Catalyst 7.8
Catalyst 7.1

BTW any driver written for XP will work with any version of XP regardless of what version it is.

Remember to install the drivers in safe mode with the Antivirus disabled.

To avoid any installation conflicts. It is not always (or even usually) necessary, but I always post to do it anyway to make sure everything goes smooth.
