Roll Eyes upgrade from ati x1300

I have a dell dimension 8400 currently running a ATI 1300X, with 2GB memory . My question is can I purchase a card better than this one.
psu is, I beleve from my invoice is 400Mhz. The current card is PCI-e . Do I need an upgrade in cpu, motherboards, and psu.I am not very tech savvy when all this is taken into account.

Re: upgrade from ati x1300

Well, From looking at google it looks like you have a P4 3.4Ghz CPU, which is still powerfull enough to do what you want to do.

When you said the PSU is 400Mhz, Did you mean 400W? ( Mhz is Megahertz - CPU & RAM Speeds ).

What is it you do? Gaming, Video Editing etc?

Really, with it being a Dell, You will need to upgrade to a stronger Power supply when buying a new Graphics card.

Thumbs Up Re: upgrade from ati x1300

HawMan'
Thank you for your help, and what I say about my being a novice at the workings of a PC is appropriate because as you pointed out the PSU is not stated on my invoice. It refers to CPU as 400Mgz.
I am now assuming it is powered at 350 watts, as you pointed out to me.
I am an avid Gamer and that is the reason for the inquirey.
If I go to a better card, then I should be looking at a PSU upgrade as well.
I don't want to buy a high end gameing machine.
Thanks for the help. If you have other siggestions please send them along.

Again Thanks

Re: upgrade from ati x1300

How much are you looking to spend? ( Remember you will more than likley need to buy the PSU too. )

The 7600GT is a good card.

So is the 8600GT for a little more Cash

Re: upgrade from ati x1300

Quite abit to spend then?

The 8800 Are Beasts are will run anything you throw at them fine. I like the 8800GTX's over the 8800GTS ( More Power )

What psu you getting? Really, it should be around the 600-700W area, the 8800's are power hungry!

And, Your welcome for the help, any problems just post

Re: upgrade from ati x1300

The 8800 is in the same range with the Radeon 1600xt. I was thinking, as you adviced, about a PSU. and the 8800gtx comes with a PSU package for around $250.00.
I will give it a go and let you know.
Again my thanks for helping me with the tech nohow.

Re: upgrade from ati x1300

The 8800 series should be abit more expensive than the X1600's.

$250 for an 8800GTX and a psu seems Very Cheap. The 8800GTX's on there own go for $500 on newegg. ( see http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...800GTX&x=0&y=0)

Re: upgrade from ati x1300

HawMan,
Obviously I am Card Burned Out. I have a problem with the current ATI Catylist X1300. between trying to fix this and looking at cards from dell and from some page,it must have been from Radeon on the bargin. I see what you meant by having money to spend.

I think I'll go less expensive. Thanks, now I will uninstall the 1300 catylist and reinstall it as AMD has suggested.Downloadng an upgrade I must have done something wrong again.
I will not burden you with this disaster

Again Thank You,

Whitey66
