Cry Monitor swithches off

Can anyone help.i start windows and just as the welcome screen comes up,the monitor switches off,"no input signal appears" then green on light goes to amber.it runs fine in safe mode.occasionally lets me in to windows but swithches of again at random.seems to be in standby hibernate mode

i have tried the following.
all power settings set to never. including hibernate and standby.

used system restore, and restored to an earlier setting.. but still swithes off.

disabled graphics card nvidia gforce 2,after downloading latest driver, which didnt help.

checked cables and connections in the tower.

Re-installed windows then after a week started to do it again,so i guess i need to find the cause this time. Can anyone help.

Re: Monitor swithches off

I had the same issue.
1. DO a clean reinstall
2. Update your Motherboard drivers.
3. update your video card drivers.

Re: Monitor swithches off

Update your motherboard, video and monitor drivers along with a full re-install.
If that does not work then you may have a faulty power supply (psu)

Re: Monitor swithches off

Also check out your video settings, make sure it's not set up for 2 monitors (not sure if that video card has the option or not - if it came with a configuration utility, check that utility for how it works with the display(s).)

I'd also try uninstalling any video card-related software from your add/remove programs (if nothing is there, then uninstall from the device manager) and reboot into normal mode, see what happens.

Also, if you have another video output slot, try plugging into that one (if you have onboard video and an addon card, for example). May need a change in the bios settings for which card to use. This doesn't seem as likely, since the display goes kapoot later on (ie, once some driver is loaded or some setting takes effect).

We just need to find out what setting it is that's killing it!
Assuming it's not a hardware failure, of course.

Re: Monitor swithches off

starting in safe mode ok but not in normal mode usually indicates the psu does not supply enough power to run the video card
post your system specs and the details from the label on the side of the power supply
