Problem, urget
Ok recently I got my PC parts and today I decided to start assembling them.
I was going to install a 8800gts 640 MB into my new PC, and a new 750 watt PSU. SO I installed everything made sure everything was poperly connected and so forth, I then booted it up, the fans started turning CPU as well (indicting to me that I plugged in the CPU as well) everything spinned including the Fan on the GPU, but no display... So I double checked my work, making sure I did it right. I then decided ok, I bet either the PSU or GPU is bad. So I uninstalled the 8800GTS and PSU and installed my old PSU and 7600 which of 2 hours ago I knew worked. Same problem, no display. SO here is what i've ruled out, I doubt the GPU is the problem I doubt the PSU is the problem *maybe its my fault on this one... (i'll explain later( I doubt connections (all be it not ruling it out) is the problem No beeps, no nothing I turn it on fans turn etc but no SCREEN. I have a modular cabling PSU which I've never dealt with before, is there a certain way to plug in the cbales and so forth? like does it have to go into a specific direction the cable that is into the PSU? My PSU never indicited anything of the sort. But that wouldn't explain my old GPU and PSU having the same issue, my thoughts are relating to to my MOBO, all be it as far as I can tell it worked... ANy advice is apperticated. O BTW, i'm not exactly a novice, I have my A+ in hardware and OS. Also here are few of my thoughts 1. Maybe i'm plugging in my modular cabling into my PSU worng, although that does not explain the fact that my old equip which as far as I know works, doesn't 2. Connections could be a issue, but i've ensured that the core basics are there, such as the 24 pin being plugged in 4 PIN CPU power. 3. Maybe my mobo got damaged some how? IDK Any advice? |

Re: Problem, urget
it's a long shot but try removing your memory and powering on .. do you get any beeps to indicate that it's missing
power off and remove the mains cable .. replace the memory power on again .. any difference ?

Re: Problem, urget
Well I see why you did what you did you established several facts which can be very important.
The PC began beeping (implying that the speakers are plugged in I should be getting beepcodes is anything is going on) Also please note, the only thing that is getting turned on now are the following My Gigabyte MOBO My GPU *7600GT* (leaving the 8800GTS out for a bit) My e6300 CPU My 460 Watt PSU As far as I can tell the response is no different wheather I have my 7600 or 8800GTS in, (Which is good news considering that now i'm not worried about my cards being bad) And with both PSUs the comptuer turns on (which means that chances are both PSUs are good) I am thinking it has to do with MOBO, tomorrow i'm taking my PC to my friends house who has several PCs and we intend on TBing it there as well, first going try a new MOBO with the 7600 GT then the 8800GTS along with both PSUs. THis is what hpapens to make sure it is clear on what does happen when I boot up. The fans turn, the CPU FAN DOES TURN The GPU Fan does turn The PSU fan DOES TURN THe PSU does light up No display |

Re: Problem, urget
The fact that the PC speaker started beeping is extremely important since it tells me that the CPU is running , it's reading (& responding to) BIOS posting via the speaker that the GPU is missing ..
If you now REMOVE the GPU (after removing the power of course) does it POST to indicate that the Graphics card is missing .. or just power on and stay silent .. if it beeps it means that it has got as far as testing for the presence of the GPU .. Also if the GPU is installed but without the monitor attached .. does it beep in recognition of the missing connection ? you can also add a simple PCI graphics card but without your other cards connected to see if you can get video output via the Southbridge .. the GPU's work via the Northbridge ..

Re: Problem, urget
Your tips azame me.
I see what your trying to do now, and have done your suggestion. I removed the GPU, left everything else No beeps, which I am going to assume means that the MOBO isn't looking for a GPU, if its not looking for a GPU its not going find it, and its not going display it. I removed my ram again and booted it up again to ensure I will be getting beep codes as well, got beep codes. Um, refering to the PCI graphics card I do not have one, tomorrow I am going to test my GPU, and PSU on my friends mobo and if it works via that mobo then we know what the problem is don't we? Its the MOBO. If it is i'll be ordering a new mobo tomorrow. Fast question though, do you think reseting the BIOS would maybe fix the issue? I'm doubting it since i've never done a thign to the bios. Re: Problem, urget
quite possible, since it's not beeping without the GPU, that the mobo Northbridge has failed and it's not getting a report back to say that the GPU has failed .. so it's sitting there waiting for a response that won't come ..
If you can add a PCI graphics card there is every possibility that some functionality will be available at least to allow you to check out the rest of your system. Whilst you have your PC Case open .. check the condition of the electrolytic capacitors around your Motherboard .. if it's a couple of years old, you have a possibility of suffering from swollen capacitors .. the extra power draw from the new card plus improved power supply might just have been the final straw .. I have replaced caps on Motherboards and seen a return to life of boards that would otherwise have been destined for the garbage bin. but make sure you go to a reputable tech to do the repair work .. or it will end up there anyway re resetting the BIOS .. when your clutching at straws .,. try anything .. I had a recent case similar to yours where the graphics output disappeared to a colleague .. removing and replacing the memory cured his problem .. in your case it was a dual edged sword .. I also wanted to find out if your CPU was working .. I call it thinking logically The motherboard DOES NOT require the CPU to be onboard in order to power on .. Powering ON & OFF is done by a separate circuit .. when the CPU is missing or not functioning then there are no POST beeps

Re: Problem, urget
Well i'm plently on money and short on time.
Tomorrow I am going to test my GPU and PSU (both sets teh 8800GTS, 750 WATT PSU) and (7600GT, 460 watt PSU) On a working mobo tomorrow, My only question is http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813128012 What do you think of that MOBO? MOBO is roughly 13 months old (Just a month outside of RMA date) Also will consider the option of investing in some after market chipset coolers... BUt I doubt heat did this in, I think it was my mistake and ESD. But never the less I believe the MOBO is fried. I may one day try to get it repaired but considering it runs on newegg for 70 bucks i'm not too concerned. Last edited by Nik00117; 08-04-2007 at 04:16 PM. |

Re: Problem, urget
Well DOAs are a fact of life...
All though it'd really piss me off, I can only hope for the best. Newegg should offer a service where it tests the equip before it leaves, and package it exteremly well. I'd gladly pay 20-30 bucks to ensure that my equip is tested and alright, and the fact that its well packaged. Anyways going go test my new PSU and GPU see ya. |

Re: Problem, urget
if you have two RAM cards you could try just placing one at a time .. doubt if you'd have problems with both at the same time
