Cry [SOLVED] I am seriously losing my mind, please, please help me.

Today at work I decided to get a VisionTek X1550 256mb AGP 8X video card. This is a slight upgrade to my previous Ati Radeon 9800 Pro.

I uninstalled the drivers, turned off my computer and booted it up after installing the new card. It gets to windows loading screen, finishes loading then: black screen. I know it's at the login screen but i cannot see it.

So I put my old one in, and try safe mode. Nope. All it gets to is a bunch of DOS like text on the screen and never gets to anything else.

So I try "reboot with last config that worked", that works. Until I use a driver cleaner tool. Now no matter what option I choose, safe, normal, debug or whatever I cannot get to a windows loading screen.

No matter which card I use.

I can get to the BIOS screens and the like. Please help me. Please, I am so incredibly frustrated.

First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to respond.

Secondly, how do I reset the cmos? And check the 12v+ line?

Thanks again. I'm so pissed

Re: I am seriously losing my mind, please, please help me.

look at the label on the side of the psu it will list the amps on each line
turn the computer off
remove the power lead
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pins 2 and 3 then back to pins 1 and 2
replace the battery
boot up the computer

I took out the battery, unplugged the computer and checked the Amp (it's 18). But I don't see where the jumper is.

First of all, I should say that I have no idea what a jumper looks like. Secondly, I see nothing anywhere near the battery. No jumper, no on off switch, no cables or w/e to move around.

I just did some research and it says some mobo's don't have them. Everything has a Via logo if that helps.

Uh I can't get past the loading screen for Windows man. No way I can run a program. Now, it's been off for a bit with the battery out. When I turn it on what do I do?

Re: I am seriously losing my mind, please, please help me.

I have news. I got the message that the CMOS was reset and nothing has changed. I still cannot access anything past the windows loading screen, with safe mode yielding a bunch of gibberish starting with windows/partion/blah blah blah

(I've had my HD partioned with linux for over a year, that's not the issue).

Re: I am seriously losing my mind, please, please help me.

Another update. I decided to see if Kubuntu works, it does. So it's definitely a Windows problem. Everything looks fine. So, if the CMOS being reset does nothing, and Linux works but Windows doesn't, what do I do?

Can I edit anything important from Linux?

Re: I am seriously losing my mind, please, please help me.

I tried the restore disk for shits and giggles, brings up a blinking white line like on a command prompt and never changes from the screen.

I knew no one could fix this problem. My problems are always un-fixable =[

Hi you cant edit your windows operating system from Kubuntu (you can read write from Ubuntu if your version is 7.04 but I wouldn't mess with the operating system from there) Your best bet is to do as dai suggested and do a repair install of windows (he has provided a link) after you have done that you will not be able to boot into Kubuntu (it will still be there) because windows will have rewritten the master boot record I will go and get the fix now and get back to you.

Forget the fix, I don't have a windows boot disk, and even if i did a registration number. And the restore disk worked last time, it doesn't work this time. it brings up a blinking white line.

This is grade A ridiculous. ******* uninstalling DRIVERS did this.
