[SOLVED] GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

Really, really frustrated with this issue...can anyone help? Plezzz

I have a Qosmio F15-AV201 laptop that has the NVIDIA GeForce Go 5700 video card. I purchased a LG 22" widescreen monitor that supports 1680x1050. However, when I hook up to the monitor, it only goes to 1600x900 max resolution. It looks horrible because that is a 16:9 format and the native format is 16:10. That doesn't seem like much difference but I work in photography (not professionally however) and when I view pictures on this wide screen with the resolution at 1600x900, people look tall and skinny. When I hook up the 22" monitor to my work laptop (IBM Thinkpad) it does support 1680x1050 and it looks perfect.

The driver version for my GeForce adapter is 6.6.1.2 and Bios version is 4.36.20.41.BE. Is there a newer version that will support 1680x1050? I did a search here on this forum as well as Google and couldn't find anything newer. If there is no newer version, how can I get my video card to support 1680x1050?

Thanks.

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

Thanks! However, I tried this driver and got the following error: "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit". Any other drivers I can try? Is there free support from NVIDIA? There website doesn't show any support phone numbers or emails that I saw anyway.

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

Go to Start > (Settings) > Control Panel > Display > Settings tab > Advanced... > GeForce Go FX5700 tab > Screen Resolutions & Refresh rates

First, uncheck Hide modes this monitor cannot display. Then, if you still do not see your resolution...

Below, click Add custom resolution. Fill in the fields you see with this info:

Horizontal Resolution/Pixels: 1680
Vertical Pixels: 1050
Color Depth/Bits per Pixel: 32 (Bit)
Refresh Rate: 60 (Hz)

Click OK and choose your new resolution.

Thanks Matt for your help. However I don't have a Add option or button on the GeForce FX Go5700 tab screen. This is what I have on that screen (or tab): Screen resolution (highest goes to 1600x900), Color quality, Monitor settings including screen refresh rate and a box that says Show only physical panning resolutions. That's all that on that tab (see attached image).

Download this driver:

Click the first link labeled Download. Don't click any of the INF links.

Matt,
I downloaded and tried to install that driver. However it did the same thing as 3 other different drivers I've tried to install. See attached.
And, again thanks for your help.

Strange. That driver should support that card. Try this driver:

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

Matt,
I installed that driver and it appeared that it installed. However after rebooting, the version is the same (6.6.1.2) and nothing has changed. It still doesn't give me the ability to Add a custom resolution.

What's weird is when its installing, my Paint Shop Pro popup comes up saying its updating (see attached). It wasn't like the other drivers when NVIDIA screen came up with the install.

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

This should work if that is a unified driver. The 84.21 drivers didn't take but maybe these will. I don't know why that card isn't cooperating.

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

The 84.63 had same result as before.> "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit". I just don't understand it! Why can't I install any video drivers? This is so frustrating. Matt - Thanks so much for sticking with me though. I'll try anything at this point.

I am stumped as well unfortunately. I am going to ask someone who has experience with nVidia drivers.

Actually one more thing. Try booting into safe mode and installing the drivers. That might work.

To get into Safe Mode, tap F8 right after the manufacturer logo disappears. You might want to tap it multiple times to make sure you hit it at the correct time.

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

Hi,

I've just had a quick glance through this thread, so forgive me if I suggest something you've already tried.

Firstly, when you've tried to install the drivers Matt has been suggesting, have you uninstalled the previous version first? If you haven't, make sure you do that. Also, download Driver Cleaner (in my signature) and make sure all the remnants are gone before putting on the new drivers. As Matt said above, make sure you install the new drivers in Safe Mode, with any antivirus programs disabled.

Give these drivers a go and see what happens.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_162.18.html
They're the latest available drivers for the FX range. The product support list doesn't specify any "Go" products, but they should work anyway. I will keep searching, in case there's a better match, or those don't work.

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

Question before I uninstall the video driver: won't uninstalling the video driver render my laptop unusable? Or is there a default non-NVIDIA driver that it would fall back to, to be able to see the display? Thanks again.

Windows will install a generic driver but depending on the card, you may only get resolutions as high as 800 x 600 making the display look ugly.

I spent about 45 minutes trying to download Driver Cleaner from your link but it won't allow me to download unless I purchase, even though it says it's a free download. I also downloaded "Download Mgr" to try to download Driver Cleaner using that and all that downloaded was a link to the same link you provided in your signature. I will do the uninstall and booting up in Safe Mode and reinstalling one of the drivers (without using Driver Cleaner) to see it that works. I'll report back. Man...I can't believe how painful this is just because I bought a new monitor. :(

Thanks.

Re: GeForce Go 5700 Support 1680x1050?

Ok, now my laptop is messed up. I uninstalled the NVIDIA driver, booted to Safe mode. "Tried" to install all the different drivers that have been suggested here. None of them would install. I got the same messages as before. I only have the default VGA driver installed and nothing else will install. Also my video is running extremely slow when I scroll a page.

I even tried to use my Norton GoBack program and couldn't get that to work. I don't know what to do now. Any other ideas?
