Monitor/Video Card Problem
I am having a problem with my display since I moved.
When I power on the computer, the ASUS logo shows (it will also boot into BIOS), when the XP loading logo finishes, the monitor gives me a no input message and goes into sleep mode. I have tried 2 monitors, same issue. I am running an SLI setup with DVI running both from the PC and into the monitor (no adapters). I know the OS is loading, as I can hear the music play when windows starts. At one point I was able to boot into safe mode, but now it wont, instead I get all the exception text and it just locks up and never proceeds. I have booted off of the XP OEM disc to no avail. Does anyone have any other ideas? I am very grateful for any help that can be offered. |

Re: Monitor/Video Card Problem
Hi Acir515,
Welcome to the forum, I am not sure what ASUS Mobo you have, but if you have a seperate video card on the MoBo, try to reset it. It may have dislodged during you move. Hope this helps. Thanks, Bill |

Re: Monitor/Video Card Problem
see if you get a screen in safe mode,if you do the most likely cause is there is not enough power to power the cards

Re: Monitor/Video Card Problem
I have checked the video cards (SLI), they are seated correctly and power is connected appropriately. I have tried booting into safe mode to see if the desktop comes up, but when I attempt to do this now, it freezes on mup.sys and the only recourse is a restart. The only time I get a picture now is during startup and at the safe mode menu. I am running a 500 watt power supply that seems to be working, although I haven't tested the output power yet. Any idea what kind of voltage/current I need to ensure that it is running appropriately? Thanks for the continued assistance.

Re: Monitor/Video Card Problem
does'nt make much difference if it is a top quality or generic psu a 500w is not going to run that system your looking at a min of 750w+ quality psu required

Re: Monitor/Video Card Problem
It seems odd that this setup worked flawlessly for over a year. I will try a new PSU and let you know the outcome. Thanks for the help.
Do you have any ideas about the mup.sys problem? Last edited by acir515; 08-06-2007 at 02:34 PM. |

Re: Monitor/Video Card Problem
look at this
http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/w...rum/97354.html are you sure it's the mup error when loading from safe mode if mup is listed the next one that does'nt load is agp440.sys is the next driver as for the psu as the system ages it requires more power and it's not unusual for overloaded psu's to give up the ghost down the track put your specs into here http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp based on a quality psu and add 30% to the end result and in the capacitor ageing box 25%

Re: Monitor/Video Card Problem
Ok, this is what I have done since last I posted.
I replaced the PSU, no dice I went into the recovery console and discovered that it was recognizing my secondary IDE HDD (My primary is SATA) I removed the second drive and the recovery console didn't recognize my SATA drive as beig there at all, it recognized no hard drives whatsoever. I checked the BIOS, the SATA drive was shown to be there. I disconnected the SATA drive and reinstalled the IDE drive, no dice I then reconnected both drives, went into windows setup and installed windows on the seconday drive, that worked. My concern now is whether the SATA drive is still working. Obviously I want to get some material from the drive, it would be nice if it could be salvaged altogether. It seems to me that the drive is working but some portion of it is corrupted preventing windows from seeing the drive and thus booting from it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |
