Video card, monitor help?

I've read thread after thread and a lot of the things sound like what I need but not sure. My computer took a noise dive 2 months ago and I did not have the time to deal with it. So I bought this compaq. But it has Vista on it.
My computer that is on the blink was a Linux o/s which I uninstalled and installed Windows XP.
I have a lot of software and program information I can no longer access.

The last thing I remember seeing was something about corrupted files.
I no longer get anything on the monitored. I have a wireless keyboard and the Numlock and Scrol lock lite up but not the Caps lock.
I reset the jumper pins for the CMOS,
Still nothing
The Fan blows in the power box and for the processor but nothing comes on the monitor.
I hear the ok beep when it starts. but nothing on the screen still.
Then I hear what sounds like the IDE drive spinning and a beep. then it just continues spin beep, spin beep.
This is what I have

Via Samuel2
1GigApro processor
SiS630E chipset
2DIMM slots for 168-pin SDRAM (2 x512MB)installed
3D Graphics Accellerator
Ultra DMA 33/66/100 function
Main board builtin AC97 Codec
10BaseT/100BaseTX Ethernet LAN
Micro ATX board

Can anyone help?

Re: Video card, monitor help?

Hi, welcome to TSF

So, this is the "old" computer with XP installed?
It sounds like either the motherboard or the power supply is faulty.
What motherboard and power supply do you have?

Re: Video card, monitor help?

Try another monitor.
Did you remember to unplug the computer from the wall outlet and take the battery out when you reset BIOS?
Do you have another power supply you can try in the computer?

Re: Video card, monitor help?

Thanks Nicolas,
I bought another monitor so I could check the computer and look and tech forum at the same time.
No, I do not have another power supply.
I guess I will have to just take it in, to have it checked. If this computer is dead. Have I lost everything on the hard drive.

Re: Video card, monitor help?

You could connect the hard drive to another computer to see if it's still working (and save your data).
