Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
OK,I really hope this forum can help. New system built 2 months ago. I was updating my radeon 1950pro's driver and accidentally deleted the display adapter in device manager. Needless to say at the next reboot I lost the ability to see anything passed the window black welcome screen with the lil blu scrolling bar on the bottom. After that all goes black. I can hear in the background that Windows booted fine but no image. I also cannot boot in safe mode or safe mode with command prompt; It stops after loading of the file JGOGO.sys. Any idea how I can reinstall any version of the display adapter and be able to see anything? The idea or formatting. reinstallin XP once again is scary. XP repair utilities will,as ususal, eventually take me to the same.
If needed, I could install xp on the second drive and and change settings/registry to the screwed up drive?! I'm VERY frustrated. Thanks! |

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
Do you have an onboard graphics card? Try removing your ATI card, and plugging the monitor into the onboard and booting into windows. Then uninstall all drivers relating to either graphics card (CCleaner can help with this), restart, install the ATI software, THEN plug the ATI card back in and boot up.

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
Thanks. Sadly I don't have an onboard card. The drivers won't install because there's no display adapter in the device manager. The ATI installer error mentions something about installing the hardware frirst :( CLearly it doesn't see it. But I can't do anything until I can see.

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
Ok you have another option. You can use your Windows XP CD to do a repair of the operating system. It should ask you to provide the drivers for the hardware while it's installing, at which point you can load the drivers off of the harddrive (should be in C:\ATI if you extracted them recently) or you can put them on a CD with another computer. To do this:
1.) Insert the Windows XP CD and boot from it 2.) Once it loads, select ENTER to install XP (NOT repair, yet) 3.) After agreeing to the terms, it should recognize your current XP installation (NOTE: If it does not, and gives you reformatting options for FAT32 or NTFS then STOP IMMEDIATELY; this is the wrong boot CD and will reformat your computer if you continue) 4.) Have it repair the current installation which will copy come files to the harddrive and restart 5.) This time do not press any key to boot from the CD, but alllow it to enter the Windows Installation and continue from there You will need your XP product key handy, and your drivers extracted to some sort of media like a CD or your harddrive (flash drives MAY work, I haven't tried it this way). It should either automatically find the ATI driver or ask your to locate it, and after installing you should restart and be fine. Hope it works! |

I tried to start in VGA a few times and no change. Is the last file showing on the safe mode boot the one that is locking it up or the one after? I'll try to replace that from another drive if i can. |

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
are you getting into the f8 options to select vga mode
set the bios to default, but make a note of your settings first as you will have to reoptimise it again after in the video card section where i moved it to

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
Yes I get to the F8 right before windows starts and I get the VGA options that puts the option u choose in blue at the bottom of the screen.
I did also put the bios to defule and thre are no RAID otions enabled. If and when i get back into it...how do make device manager create an instace of Display adapter? Before the video was gone it wouldn't show any and the ATI installed woldn't go for that reason. |

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
Done twice and still there was no VGA/Display adapter. What makes windows recreate a new display adapter when u 'accidentally' delete it?
I thought it was not a problem deleting it. I've done it before?!

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
I think your best bet at this point is to do a repair install. VGA mode should have worked. Also safe mode. There may be more wrong here than the display driver.
A repair install will not erase information or require reinstalling programs. It just fixes the Windows problems.

Re: Can I reinstall display adapter without screen??
it's not a problem deleting it,i use it as standard practice when advising to reinstall drivers
your problem is caused by something else check vga is enabled in the bios
