[resolved]Installing new gfx card - confused
So I have basically rebuilt my system but still using my old hd. My old gfx card was a nvidia card as is my new on-board gfx chip, so I plugged the monitor in to the motherboard and it ran fine. Now I want to connect my new ATI gfx card butam unsure how to change over and configure etc, whats the easiest way to do it?
Do I just stick it in, boot up, install drivers and switch the display cable over or do I need to uninstall the nvidiadrivers first and play around in the BIOS? cheers 12 |

Re: Installing new gfx card - confused
Hello and welcome to the forum. You will need to disable the onboard video in the bios, but you will have to first remove your Nvidia drivers before installing an ATI videocard....once you do that XP will recognize the new hardware and give you the wizard to install the new drivers from ATI, so have them on cd or somewhere on the HD that you can easily remember

Re: Installing new gfx card - confused
Hi, thanks for the welcome and replies.
My old card was a geforce 6800gt and my new card is a radeon sapphire x1950. My onboard graphics are nvidia. The upgrade was inorder to switch to pci-e rather than to improve performance as Im not sure the new card is any better. If I disable the on board graphics will the monitor still work if connected to the motherboard? Otherwise how will I get into Windows? or does it just disable 3d graphics? thanks again |
