I like that suggestion because it will be less likely that you will have to upgrade the PSU. But still, you should always evaluate it before a video card upgrade. What brand is it, how many watts does it put out, and how many amps on the +12v and how many +12v rails are there?

If you have a 600+w PSU already though, then you might as well go with the X1650XT which is a much better choice performance wise.

Naa!
7600GT beats it hands down, (at least for Doom3) and you don't have to suffer the dreadful Catalyst Control Centre.

The X1650XT does over twice as many shader operations per second. Don't make me go into my shader rant...

Re: Best card under £70

The 8600GT will slightly beat the old 7600GT and X1650XT in raw performance.
In addition to speed, the 8600GT has the added bonus of DirectX-10 as well as being a good overclocker.

And this GTS....

You should know that's probably like a 150W unit you have there with it's performance. A 7600GT would be fine, but I would lean with a 8600GT TBH, as the price is very similar and it's DX10 supporting, aswell as a good overclocker for better performance (stock it's not too good).
