Building a PC

Yeah.. so I finally realized my old rig is too out of date.

My new rig will be used mainly for Photoshop, Vegas, Surfing, MSN, and some Engineering Software for University. However, I also like to play some games such as Counter Strike, The Sims 2, Halo 2, Battlefield, etc, and hope to be able to play some of the newer gamers coming out later. Anyways, my budget is $750 - $800 CAD dollars. I can't use Newegg which allot of people recommend their products on because they don't ship to Canada. :( . A site you can use to see prices is www.canadacomputers.com, one of their warehouses is about a 10 minute drive from where I live.

So here is what I've been planning to make:
CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 Socket LGA775, 1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, 4MB L2 Cache, 65nm
$192.99

Mobo
Asus P5B Socket 775 Intel 965 Express + ICH8 Chipset Dual-Channel DDR2 533/667/800 Gigabit Lan Intel High Definition Audio PCI-Express x16 Graphics 4xSATAII Support Core 2 Duo Processor
$132.99

PSU
Cooler Master iGreen 500W Power Supply ATX V2.2 EPS12V SLI Ready Active PFC 20/24PIN 120MM Fan
$104.99

RAM
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=014207&cid=RAM.835
$126.99

Drive
Seagate Barracuda (ST3250620AS) 7200.10 250GB SATA NCQ 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache (OEM)
$73.99

Video
I'M BUMMED :p :p I need some help here to complete the system

I have give or take ~ $150 to spend. My friend told me to cheapen the PSU a bit because I won't be needing it (although I HATE having a crummy PSU ) and to save a bit more money on the RAM (downgrading to 667, or to 1GB) I could also save some money on the Hard Drive

I have very little knowledge of the current ATI vs Nvidia feud and which company currently prevails. The last time I kept up to date was back when the x800 was the best of the best. Anyways, do as you please and any recommendations are welcomed. Keep in mind this is a budget system.

Re: Building a PC

you cannot select your power supply until you have the rest of the system
then you compromise on the other componets not the psu
when you have what you think will be the final build, run the specs through here
http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp
based on a quality psu and add 30% to the end result
then select your psu
shop around as in the usa someone seems to have them out on special and you can save a decent amount

Re: Building a PC

I mentioned that Newegg is not an option, I'm in Canada and they won't ship here. I also won't be shipping parts as I prefer to purchase locally.

Also, the PSU usage they gave me with a 8600GT in my system is 380W, which seems kind of low.. Either way, I heard that the iGreen 500W is an excellent PSU and I want to keep it in the system in case I choose to upgrade something later on, I would prefer not going under 500W for this reason, however, I'm sure you guys have more knowledge than I do so I am taking any recommendations you have. Just please try to use http://www.canadacomputers.com as a source.

Any ideas for a video card?

Re: Building a PC

Alright, I'm thinking about getting the 8600 GT for $146

Is this a good card? How is the price/performance ratio?

Also, do all my parts look compatible? With a quick glance does anyone have any recommendations or things they would do differently given my circumstances?
