Hi,
I just received the new video card I ordered. Yay! Before I install it, I need to take the old one out.... Do I need to do a software uninstall of some kind before I physically remove the existing video card? Or do I just open up the case and remove the existing card, insert the new card and start the software install for the new card? |

Re: Uninstall before Install ?
Hi, uninstall anything to do with your video card from Add/Remove Programs.
Stay in Control Panel and go to System> Hardware> Device Manager>Display Adapters and right-click on the card name. Select Uninstall. When asked to restart say No. Shut down your computer. Now unplug the computer from the power supply, unplug your monitor and remove your old card; install the new. |

Re: Uninstall before Install ?
When i installed my cards ( went from an GF4, to a GF3, to a Geforce 6200 ), i just shut down the PC, and swapped the cards. The Nvidia drivers worked when i put the new card in, then i just updated them to the omega ones.
Im not sure, but i think you only remove the old drivers when going from ATI to Nvidia, or Nvidia to ATI. |

Re: Uninstall before Install ?
Hey Deyvid,
I usually use "driver cleaner pro", you can find it at major geeks.com. As stated remove the original drivers in the add and remove. Reboot to safe mode, re-remove drivers again with DCP. Then swap the card, make sure you have the new drivers already in a zipped file before you start as they won't get touched. System will go to default drivers, then will see the new card add drivers reboot should be good to go from there.
