Duel Monitor?
I just ordered a new PC (m8120n) and would like to hook up two monitors for it. What I want to do is run on monitor for tv via a slingbox, and another monitor for normal computing. Is this possible to do with my current set up or do I need a new GPU and if so it there a decient one out there that I would not have to upgrade my PSU for? I am moving soon and want to save as much money as I can.
currntly there is a 7350LE video car. It has one DVI ourput along with a vga and something else I belive component out. I also think that their is a 300 watt power supply with 18 amps accros the 12V board. I am not sure on the PSU though. Thank you for your time. |

Re: Duel Monitor?
You'll also need a card that supports input. A basic TV tuner card is cheap and will fill that role. After that just plug in both monitors (a DVI->VGA adapter may be needed) and arrange your windows as you please.

Re: Duel Monitor?
Thanks. I have a tv tuner and PVR already in their so I should be good for inputs. I was wanting to view tv from a sling box signal over the internet. I am assuming that that should not be a problem and that I can run the signal through the PVR and use that feature. As for the DVI->VGA adapter is that DVI to VGA or VGA to DVI? I am not sure but I am guess the first. Where can I find one of those and about how much are they? Thanks again for your time. Oh and one last thing I see that you play WoW. I was thinking of giving it a try but will I be able to with just the 7350LE video card?

Re: Duel Monitor?
I have not recieved my PC yet as it is still being shipped but somebody just informed me of a problem. Although it says it has DVI and VGA outs what it really has is a DVI out with a VGA adapter. It also has a S-video out though. Can I just use the DVI out for a monitor and then the S-video or a tv or monitor, preferably a monitor? Or do I need a DVI splitter or something like that to do two monitors? Or do I have not options but to change the PSU and GPU?

Re: Duel Monitor?
If both are DVI then you can just get another DVI->VGA adapter and work from there.

Re: Duel Monitor?
No it just has
1 DVI out 1 S-video out It also has an adapter from dvi to vga. So you could have one dvi or one vga. Will I be able to run one monitor from dvi and one from s video? Or is there soemthing else I will have to do? |

Re: Duel Monitor?
You can only connect one monitor unless you get a splitter box. That card will allow a monitor output and a TV output simultaneously.

Re: Duel Monitor?
Patrick,
I know this is old and you are probably not having problems but just in case someone does . . . . HP m8120n has a wireless card. It is NOT installed correctly. Upon connecting wirelessly you will see 2 bars and no activity. You will have to open the cover and on the card itself (need magnify glass) you will see a thin wire (millimeter :) ) That wire is connected closest to you you (up). Grab the head and pull up or it would be straight out. Then push on the lower pin head and poof it works. HP tech support has no idea as of yet. I spoke to them for days trying to solve the problem and they gave me every excuse in the book including blaming my current wireless network. Well I switched the connection and it's been working great. |

Re: Duel Monitor?
To JGMC and PatrickL
Hi I also have a Hp m8120n computer and it has troubles, the E drive went bad but after the tech in stalled the new one. 12/2/08 about. I have had nothing but troubles. Phoning HP tech is a joke I have put over 18 hours on the phone with them. They had he pull off all drive cables and check the ram to see if it was in place. Why the computer will just cut-off like sleep mode but its off, and you need to trun it off and back on to get it to work. I been 3 weeks now from the start of my troubles. HP has replace motherboard E hard Drive, and Video card 7350 old card. I have replace the power 2 times one with what HP tech said to get, a 461 watt but it had only 17 Amp lol. now a 650 watts and 32 Amps max TigerDirect. Great guys ! and a new 9600 gt Nvideo card Great right No.. I have now found the Trouble with the computer.i think i am using it now. but you JGMC have my answer Please!! the wireless "5188-7738, HP, EXTERNAL OMNI DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA. " IS IT>> The tech put it on a set of 4 pins down by video card but this was wrong place it was shorting the motherboard, and then HP had to replace the board. not fun. Next Tech place it onto a USB port 1 at bottom right of board. This is what I beleave is cutting off the computer. I talked to TigerDirect tech and was told to pull it and try it. now its working. But I would like to get it back to my wireless set up. I got it hard wire now to look for answers. after hours i found your posting,A Ray of Light. Please if you can let me know were to place theblack 5 hold jack. or if you got a better answer tell me.. Sorry for long post but its been a Pain, and HP so call tech are a joke. First you get a person reading a list from a book, and after that you get a tech that may have seen in a computer before. HP web help is no good there on wiring phots or info. that can be used..Thanks JJMMurphy |

Re: Duel Monitor?
Hi JJM, I am not sure what you're asking me.
If you're asking me how to make your internal wireless card work, open the CPU, you'll see a card with two small wires next to each other with little screws (it's been long, can't fully remember what it looks like) any way you are going to have to swich to two itty bitty wires, I'm talking small. Remember you will know which is the wireless card by following that nipple thing you connect the antenna to on the outside. That is the one. Or try this link i found if you haven't see it already. http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/...readId=1153595 |
