Computer keeps freezing after installing video card
On Tuesday I installed a GeForce 7600 GT and for a while everything was working fine, no problems. Yesterday however my computer froze once while playing a game, and today it's frozen 3 times already. I don't get why it's freezing though because when it does freeze it's not like I'm running any heavily demanding games, and not a lot is going on at the screen. One time it froze while I was just browsing the internet, so I don't really thing it's overheating or anything, it's just randomly freezing.
Before I installed this I was running a Radeon Xpress 200 series onboard graphics, I made sure I uninstalled everything properly before installing the nVidia drivers. I also made sure my drivers are up to date. However once I'm done with posting this message I think I'll reboot into safe mode and use Driver Cleaner Pro to delete all my drivers and then I'll reinstall the nVidia drivers. |

Re: Computer keeps freezing after installing video card
I know it's a 300W, however I'm running a 7600 GT on my other computer off a 300W and it runs just fine, I'm not quite sure of the make though I'll get back to you on that.
I also know many people who run cards even more demanding than a 7600 GT on a 300W PSU, of course I know that it doesn't mean the PSU isn't the problem, I'm looking into other possible reasons for why it's doing this right now before I go out and buy another PSU. |

Re: Computer keeps freezing after installing video card
Interesting, so I got out this small office fan I have here in my room and I turned it on low and have it blowing on my computer. Since I've done this it hasn't frozen once... perhaps it is overheating? That doesn't make much sense though...

Re: Computer keeps freezing after installing video card
If the desktop fan fixed the problem then overheating is most likely, possibly caused by a weak PSU. See what the temperatures and PSU voltages are like without the fan blowing into the case.
Close the case side panels and post back with a screenshot from SensorsView at startup with no programs running, then another while playing a 3D game (alt-tab back to the desktop to see SensorsView). Have you cleaned the dust out of the computer lately, and are all the fans spinning? (case, CPU, graphics card fans) Post back with the details from the PSU label (make/model, amps for +3.3V, +5V and +12V).
