GeForce 5600 ultra upgrade
I have a machine with a GeForce 5200 AGP card that's fan started to go bad. So, I decided to switch it out early with another card I have that is verified to work. (Geforce 5600 ultra AGP). When I stick the new card into the pc video does not come up on the monitor....the pc appears to boot, and if I stick the old card in, it makes it to windows because I get the safe mode menu. (windows was not shut down properly blah blah.)
Sticking the old card in and everything works fine...is there a conflict in the bios that is causing me a problem? I have no PCI cards in the motherboard (which is a P4S800D-X). Thanks in advance. |

Re: GeForce 5600 ultra upgrade
Hello and welcome to the forum. You can try starting up in safe mode with the old card....remove the videodriver for the 5200 and shut down....install the new card and power up and if it works install the new drivers for the 5600. Also, you could also just buy an aftermarkert cooler for the 5200/5600....the Zalman VF700 would be a nice choice (double check the zalman site for compatability....but I have one on my old 5200, not sure about the 5600 !)

Re: GeForce 5600 ultra upgrade
Would removing the old drivers help if I do not see ANYTHING displayed when I power the pc on? Bios does not display etc...
Also, they use the same driver ??? I probably will buy another fan or aftermarket cooling system for the old card at some point to use it as a backup... Last edited by clefus; 05-10-2007 at 12:50 AM. |

Re: GeForce 5600 ultra upgrade
Does the 5600 have provisions for an additional (aux) power conector...does your psu have at least 18A on the 12V rail (preferably more)

Re: GeForce 5600 ultra upgrade
try pulling out one memory module and see if one of them is bad....make sure they are seated well. The amperage on your psu should be fine
