GeForce 6600 extremely noisy fan
Lately my fan has started making a continuous line of clicks as it spins which is driving my nearly insane from the noise. It sounds like one of those clickers kids put on the spokes of their bikes.
Any have an idea how I can get rid of this noise or what could be causing it?

Re: GeForce 6600 extremely noisy fan
Chances are it's just old and needs a little cleaning and lubrication. Shut off the computer and take the power cord and monitor cord off. Open the case, and then touch a bare metal piece of the chassis to discharge any static electricity. Remove your video card.
Remove the fan, and clean all the dust off of it. I like to use a q-tip with some alcohol on it to clean the blades and housing. Peel back the little sticker on the back and put a drop of 3 in 1 household oil on the little axle. Then, either snake a drop or two between the blades into the bearing, or a tiny shot of electronics cleaner/lubricator. It's in an aerosol can and available at radio shack. Give it a few spins and put it back together. That should quiet it up for a while!

Re: GeForce 6600 extremely noisy fan
buy a aftermarket fan, or heatsink with no fan
like a Zalman hs/f

Re: GeForce 6600 extremely noisy fan
I'm having the same issue with my 730GT card. It sounds as though the fan is striking something inside the housing. I used compressed air to clean the dust (very little) but the noise is back after about a week.
I disconnected the power supply to the fan, but will leaving the fan disconnected eventually damage the card? |

Re: GeForce 6600 extremely noisy fan
it will overheat the card, and the computer will crash

Re: GeForce 6600 extremely noisy fan
Fans are very cheap and easy to install, so just replace it.
